PSALM
HOW TO GET GUIDANCE FOR A GOOD DAY.

This is based on the N.I.V. translation of the
book of Psalms written about 2300 years or about
31 lifetimes ago. Our comments are in brackets.

PSALM 1.

God's peace of heart is yours if you don't:
-Walk in (continue to follow) the advice of
    the wicked.
-Stand in (stop and loiter in) sinners' ways
-Sit in (settle down to enjoying) mockers'
    company
But instead, regarding God's (word) and law,
you:
  -Delight in it.
-Meditate on it day and night.

Whatever you do will prosper, you'll be like a
tree:
  -Planted by streams of water.
  -Yielding seasonal fruit.
  -Whose leaf doesn't wither.

Not so the wicked, they:
-Like chaff, will be blown away.
-Will be wiped out when God judges everyone.
-Have no place among God's people.

The Lord watches over the way of the righteous
(those whose hearts beat in time with His),
But the way of the wicked will perish.

PSALM 2.

Nations conspire, peoples vainly plot, kings and
rulers gather and stand against the Lord and His
Messiah. "Let's rebel against their authority,

throw off their control," they say.

From His throne in heaven the Lord:
  -Laughs.
  -Holds them in derision.
  -In anger rebukes them.
  -In wrath terrifies them.
-Says "I've installed my king on Zion my holy
    hill" (Jerusalem's temple site).
  -Says to His Messiah.
    -"You're my son.
    -To-day I've become your Father.
    -Ask me and I'll make:
      -Nations your inheritance.
      -Earth's ends your possession.
    -You'll:
-Rule them with an iron rod.
      -Shatter them like pottery."

So kings and rulers, be warned, be wise and:
-Serve the Lord with fear (reverent awe).
  -Rejoice with reverent awe.
-Kiss (commit yourself to) the Son lest He:
-Be angry, His wrath can flare in a moment.
    -Destroy you in your way.
-Take refuge in Him and enjoy the peace of
    heart God gives.

PSALM 3.

O Lord my many foes:
  -Rise against me and say,
  -"God won't deliver him."

But you:
  -Shield and protect
  -And abundantly provide for me.
  -Give me victory.
  -Answer when I cry aloud.
-Give me a good night's sleep so I wake
    refreshed.

Therefore I won't fear the many thousands of
enemies surrounding me.

Now O Lord:
  -Arise and
  -Deliver me
-Punch all my enemies on the jaw and break
    their teeth.

Because deliverance and peace of heart comes
from the Lord to His people.

PSALM 4.

When I call to you my faithful God:
  -Hear and answer.
  -Relieve my distress.
  -Have mercy on me.

You people:
-How long will you insult me,
    love worthless delusions,
    seek lies and falsehood?
-The Lord has set His Godly people apart for
    Himself.
-The Lord will hear when I call to Him.
-Don't let anger lead you to sin, instead:
    -Rest.
    -Search your hearts.
    -Be silent.
    -Offer right sacrifices (obedience).
    -Trust in the Lord.

O Lord:
-People despairingly ask, "Who can show us any
    good?"
-So let the light of your face shine upon us.

-You've filled my heart with greater joy than
when seasonal grain and new wine abound.
-So I'll lie down and sleep in peace
           for you alone Lord
           make me dwell in safety.

PSALM 5.

O, Lord my King and God, in the morning you hear
my voice so listen to and consider my:
  -Prayer.
  -Cry for help.
  -Sighing.
  -Expectant requests.

You are a God:
  -Who abhors evil.
-With whom the wicked and arrogant can't
    dwell.
-Who hates all who do wrong.
  -Who destroys liars.
-Who abhors bloodthirsty and deceitful men.

But I, by your great mercy will:
  -Come into your house.
  -In reverence bow low.
-Be led in your straight way.

Then, concerning my enemies (who will have no
grounds for malicious accusations against me),
their:
  -Words can't be trusted.
  -Hearts are filled with destruction.
  -Throats are open graves.
  -Tongues speak deceit.
O Lord:
  -Declare them guilty.
-Let their intrigues be their downfall.
-Banish them for their many sins and
    rebellion against you.

But O Lord, let all who love your name take
refuge in you and:
-Be glad, rejoice in you and ever sing for
    joy.
-Have your protection spread over them.

For surely, O Lord you:
-Give peace of heart to your people.
-And surround them with your favour like a
    shield.

PSALM 6.

O, Lord:
-Don't rebuke me in your anger.
-Don't discipline me in your wrath.
-Be merciful to me for I'm faint.
  -Heal my agonised body.
-How long must I bear this anguish of body and
    soul?
  -Turn and deliver me.
-Save me because of your unfailing love.
-I can't remember or praise you when I'm dead.
  -I'm worn out with groaning.
-All night long I flood my bed with tears.
-My eyes are weak with sorrow, failing because
    of my foes.

(Enemies):
  -Away from me you evildoers.
  -For the Lord has:
    -Heard my weeping.
    -Heard my cry for mercy.
    -Accepted my prayer.
  -You'll be ashamed and dismayed.
-You'll be turned back in sudden disgrace.

PSALM 7

O Lord my righteous most high God, who searches
minds and hearts:
  -You're my refuge.
-Save, deliver and rescue me from all pursuers
    or they'll:
    -Tear me like a lion.
    -Rip me to pieces.
  -If:
    -I'm guilty
-I've done evil to one at peace with me
-I've robbed a foe without cause
  -Then let my enemy:
    -Pursue and overtake me.
-Trample my life to die in the ground's
      dust.
-Arise in your anger against the rage of my
    enemies.
    -Awake and decree justice.
    -Gather peoples around you.
-Rule over and judge them from on high.
  -Judge me,
-According to my innocence and integrity.
-End the violence of the wicked.
  -Make the faithful secure.
  -You're my shield.
-You save the upright in heart.
  -You're a righteous judge.
-You express relentless judging wrath daily:
    -With sharpened sword.
-Bent and strung bow and flaming arrows.

He who is pregnant with evil:
  -Conceives trouble and
  -Gives birth to disillusionment.
He who digs a hole as a trap:
  -Falls into it himself.
-Causes trouble and it recoils on him.
-Has his violence land on his own head.
(In short, crime doesn't pay).

I thank the Lord for His faithfulness and sing
praise to the Lord most high.

PSALM 8

O Lord our Lord, how majestic is your name in
all the earth, you:
-Set your glory above the heavens.
-Ordain praises from children's and infants'
    lips.
-Silence your foes, avengers and enemies.

When I consider that
  -Your fingers made the heavens
-And put the moon and stars in place

What is man or the son of man that:
  -You're mindful of
  -Or care for him?
-You made him a little lower than the heavenly
    beings (God and His angels).
-You crowned him with glory and honour.
-You made him ruler over the works of your
    hands.
-You put everything under his feet:
    -Flocks and herds.
    -Beasts of the field.
    -Birds of the air.
    -Fish of the sea.

O LORD HOW MAJESTIC IS YOUR NAME IN ALL THE
EARTH.

PSALM 9

O Lord most high, I will
-Praise you with all my heart.
  -Tell of all your wonders.
-Be glad and rejoice in you.
  -Sing praise to your name.

O Lord,
-You turn my enemies back, they stumble and
    perish.
-You've upheld my right and cause.
-You've sat on your throne judging
    righteously.
-You've rebuked nations and destroyed the
wicked, blotting their names out forever.
-You've brought endless ruin on the enemy,
uprooted their cities and erased their
    memory.
-You reign forever, having established your
    judgment throne:
-You judge the world in righteousness
      (faithfully - rightly).
    -You govern peoples with justice.
-You're a refuge for the oppressed.
-You're a stronghold in times of trouble.
-You're trustworthy for those who know you.
-You never forsake those who seek you.

Sing praise to the enthroned Lord.
Tell the nations what He's done.
He avenges blood, remembers and heeds the cry of
the afflicted.

O Lord:
  -My enemies persecute me.
-Have mercy and lift me up from death's gates
    so I may:
-Declare your praises to your people and
    -Rejoice in your salvation.
-Nations have fallen into the traps they've
    dug for others.
-You are known by your justice, as the wicked:
-Are snared by the nets they set for others.
-Nations that forgot (took no account of)
God return to the grave (hell).
-The needy won't always be forgotten.
-The hope of the afflicted won't perish.
  -Arise:
    -Don't let man triumph.
-Judge the nations in your presence.
    -Strike them with terror.
-Let them know they're mere men.

PSALM 10

O, Lord why do you stand far off and hide in
times of trouble?

The wicked:
-Arrogantly hunts down the weak but is caught
    in his own schemes.
  -Boasts of his heart's cravings.
  -Blesses the greedy.
  -Reviles the Lord.
  -Proudly, doesn't seek God.
-Has no room in his thoughts for God.
  -Is haughty and prosperous.
  -Disregards God's laws.
  -Sneers at his enemies.
  -Says to himself:
    -Nothing will shake me.
    -I'll always be happy.
    -I'll never have trouble.
-Has a mouth full of curses, lies and threats
with a tongue promoting trouble and evil.
-Waits in secret ambush near villages to

    murder innocent victims:
-Just like a lion in cover he pounces on the
helpless and drags them off in his net.
-His victims are crushed, collapse and fall
      under his strength.
-He says to himself, "God's forgotten, He
      never sees."
-Rebukes God, saying to himself, "He won't
    call me to account."

Arise Lord, lift up your hand:
  -Don't forget the helpless.
-See and consider trouble and grief and take
    it to hand.
-Help the victim who commits himself to you
    and the fatherless.
-Break the arm of the wicked and evil man and
call him to account for what he thought
    wouldn't be found out.
-You are King forever, non believers have no
    place among your people.
-Hear the desire of the afflicted:
    -Encourage them.
    -Listen to their cry.
    -Defend the fatherless and oppressed.
-So that man who is of the earth may terrify
    no more.

PSALM 11

The Lord is my refuge so why say to me:
  -Flee to the mountain (fortress).
-Fear the wicked preparing to shoot arrows
from the shadows at the upright in heart.
-The foundations are being destroyed, what
hope is there for God's faithful people?

(Remember) the Lord is on His heavenly throne in
His holy Temple.
  -He examines faithful upright men.
-His soul hates the wicked and those who love
violence. On them He will rain fiery coals,
burning sulphur and a scorching wind.
  -He is faithful.
  -He loves justice.
-Upright men will see His face.

PSALM 12

Help Lord,
  -The godly are gone.
  -The faithful have vanished.
  -Everyone lies and speaks flattering
    deception.
-May you cut off all flattering lips and
    boastful tongues that say:
    -We'll triumph with our tongues.
-We own our lips, no one is our master.

The Lord says:
  -I'll now arise because of:
    -The oppression of the weak.
    -The groaning of the needy.
-I'll protect them from those who malign them.

The Lord's words are flawless, like silver
refined and burned 7 times in a furnace.

O Lord you'll keep us safe and protected forever
from the wicked who:
  -Freely strut about
-When what is vile is honoured among men.

PSALM 13

O Lord, how long:
  -Will you forget me? Forever?
-Will you hide your face from me?
-Must I wrestle with my thoughts?
-Must I have daily sorrow of heart?
-Will my enemy triumph over me?

Look at me, answer O Lord my God and restore me
or:
  -I'm a dead man
-And my enemy will say, "I won" and
-My foes will rejoice when I fall.

But I trust in your unfailing love.
-My heart rejoices in your salvation.
-I'll sing to the Lord for He's been good to
    me.

PSALM 14

The fool:
-Says in his heart, "There is no God."
  -Such are corrupt.
  -Their deeds are vile.
  -They do no good.

The Lord looks down from heaven to see if any
understand and seek God.

But all have turned aside and become corrupt,
not a single one does good.

Won't evildoers ever learn, those who:
-Devour my people, like a man eating bread
  -Don't call on the Lord?
-Are overwhelmed by dread because God is

    present with His people.
-Frustrate the poor's plans, whose Lord is
    their refuge.

O for the complete deliverance of God's people
from their enemies. When the Lord restores His
people's fortunes they'll rejoice and be glad.

PSALM 15

Lord, who may dwell in your holy royal place?

He
  -Whose walk is blameless.
  -Who does God's will.
-Who speaks the truth from his heart.
-Who has no slander on his tongue.
  -Who doesn't wrong his neighbour.
-Who casts no slur on his fellow man.
  -Who despises vile men.
-Who honours those who fear the Lord.
-Who keeps his oath, even when it hurts.
  -Who lends money without interest.
-Who doesn't accept a bribe against the
    innocent.

He who does these things will never be shaken.

PSALM 16

O God,
-Keep me safe for you're my refuge.
-I've told you, you're my Lord.
-Apart from you I've got nothing good.
-I delight in the land's glorious faithful and
    blameless ones.
-Sorrows increase for those running after

    other gods.
-No way will I worship or speak to such
      gods.
-You have abundantly provided for all my
needs, especially my need for security.
-The boundary lines of my life you've made to
fall in pleasant places - my delightful
    inheritance.
-I praise you, my counsellor, even at night my
    heart instructs me.
  -You're always before me.
-You're at my right hand so I won't be shaken.

Therefore I have a
  -Glad heart.
  -Tongue that rejoices.
  -Body that rests secure.
Because, when I die,
-You won't abandon me in the grave
-Or let your faithful one see decay.
-Having made known to me the path of life
you'll FILL ME WITH JOY IN YOUR PRESENCE,
ETERNAL PLEASURES AT YOUR RIGHT HAND.

PSALM 17

O Lord,
-Hear and listen to my cry, plea and prayer
for justice, it's not coming from deceitful
    lips.
-May you see what's right and judge in my
    favour.
-I've resolved that my mouth won't sin.
  -You'll find nothing if you
    -Probe my heart
    -Examine me at night
    -Test me.
-By living in line with your words I've
-Avoided the ways of the violent.
-Walked in and not strayed from, your path.
-I call on you and know you'll hear and
    answer.
-Show your great wondrous love by saving those
who take refuge in you from their enemies.
  -Mortal enemies
-Surround and assail me, so protect me:
-As you would your own eye.
-Under the shadow of your wings.
    -With closed, callous hearts speak
      arrogantly.
-Like a crouching hungry lion, have tracked
me down, surrounded me and with alert eyes
are ready to throw me down.
  -Rise up
    -Confront them.
    -Bring them down.
    -Rescue me by your sword.
-Save me from this world's men whose only
      reward's in this life.
-You still the hunger of those you cherish,
    -Their sons have plenty.
-They store wealth for their children.

AND I, THE INNOCENT, WILL SEE YOUR FACE. WHEN I
AWAKE I'LL BE SATISFIED WITH SEEING YOUR
LIKENESS.

PSALM 18

I love you, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my:
  -Rock, my refuge and stronghold.
  -Fortress.
  -Deliverer.
  -Shield.
  -Strong saviour.
The Lord is worthy of praise, I call to Him and
am saved from my enemies.

The cords of death and the grave coiled,
entangled, snared and confronted me. Torrents of
destruction overwhelmed me.

Distressed, I called and cried to the Lord my
God for help.

From His temple He heard my voice and because He
was angry:
  -The earth trembled and quaked.
  -Smoke rose from His nostrils.
-Consuming fire and burning coals blazed from
    His mouth.
-He parted the heavens and came down, dark
    clouds under His feet.
-Mounted on cherubim He flew, soaring on the
    wings of the wind.
-He made the dark rain clouds of the sky His
    canopy.
-From the brightness of His presence clouds
advanced with hail and lightning bolts.
-His voice thundered and resounded from
    heaven.
-His arrows, great bolts of lightning,
    scattered and routed His enemies.
-Sea valleys were exposed, earth's foundations
laid bare at His rebuke, the blast of His
    nostrils.

Then He
-Reached down from on high and
    -Took hold of me.
-Drew me out of deep waters.
-Rescued me from my powerful enemy, foes too
strong, who confronted me in the day of my
      disaster.

    -Was my support.
-Brought me out into a spacious place
      because He delighted in me.

The Lord has dealt with, and rewarded me,
according to my faithfulness, the cleanness of
my hands, because:
  -I've kept the Lord's ways.
-I've not done evil by turning from my God.
-I know and haven't turned from His laws.
-I've been blameless before Him and kept
    myself from sin.

Lord
  -You're faithful to the faithful,
   Blameless to the blameless,
   Pure to pure and
   Shrewd to the crooked.
  -You save the humble and
   Humble the proud.
-Keep my lamp burning, turn my darkness into
    light.
-With your help I advance on my enemies and
    storm their forts.

As for God
  -His way's perfect.
  -His law's flawless.
-He's a shield for all who take refuge in Him.
-Who is there beside Him, our rock.
-(He gives me victory over enemies by)
-Arming me with strength (for battle).
    -Making my way perfect.
    -Making me swift and surefooted.
-Training hands and arms for battle.
    -Giving me His victory shield.
-Sustaining me with His right hand.
-Stooping down to make me great.
    -Broadening my path for safety.

-Enabling pursuit and destruction of them.
    -Making adversaries
      -Bow at my feet.
      -Turn and flee.
-Cry for help, but no one saved them.
-Cry to the Lord but He didn't answer.
-Beating them as fine as wind blown dust.
-Pouring them out like mud in the street.
    -Delivering me from attack.
-Making me head of nations so that
      foreigners are subjects who:
      -Hear me.
      -Obey me.
      -Cringe before me.
-Lose heart and come trembling from
        strongholds.

The Lord, is the God who
  -Lives.
    -Praise to my rock.
    -Exalted be God my saviour.
  -Avenges me.
  -Subdues nations under me.
-Saves me from and exalts me over my foes.
  -Rescues me from violent men.
  -Gives His king great victories.
-Shows unfailing kindness to His anointed
    forever.

THEREFORE I'LL PRAISE YOU AMONG THE NATIONS, O
LORD AND SING PRAISES TO YOUR NAME.

PSALM 19

The heavens and skies, to the ends of the world:
  -Declare God's glory.
  -Proclaim His hand's work.
  -Daily pour forth speech.
  -Nightly display knowledge.
   (For example, the sun)
    -Put there by God
    -Coming up daily like a
      -Bridegroom coming forth from his
        pavilion,
-Champion rejoicing to run his course.
-Rising at one end of the heavens,
    -Circuiting to the other,
-Nothing being hidden from its heat.

The law, statutes, precepts, commands,
ordinances and fear of the Lord are:
  -Perfect, reviving the soul.
  -Trustworthy, making the immature wise.
-Right, giving joy to the heart.
-Radiant, giving light to the eyes.
  -Pure, enduring forever.
  -Sure, completely faithful.
  -More precious than pure gold.
  -Sweeter than honey.
  -Warnings to God's servant.
  -Greatly rewarding if kept.

Lord,
-Who can see his own errors?
  -Forgive my hidden faults.
-(On the other hand) keep me from letting
    wilful sins rule me.
-Then I'll be blameless and innocent of great
    transgression.

MAY THE WORDS OF MY MOUTH AND THE MEDITATION OF
MY HEART BE PLEASING IN YOUR SIGHT, O LORD, MY
ROCK AND MY REDEEMER.

PSALM 20.

May the Lord, Jacob's God
  -Answer when you're in distress.
  -Protect you.
  -Send you help and support.
  -Remember your sacrificial worship.
-Give you success, the desire of your heart.
  -Grant all your requests.

We'll shout joyfully when you're victorious and
lift our banners in God's name.

Now I know the Lord saves His anointed,
answering him from heaven with His right hand's
saving power.

Some trust in chariots, some in horses, they are
brought to their knees and fall.
BUT WE TRUST IN THE NAME OF THE LORD OUR GOD,
rise up and stand firm.

O Lord save the king and answer our call.

PSALM 21

O Lord
-The king rejoices in your strength.
-The victories you give bring him joy.
-You've granted his heart's desire and
    answered his prayers.
-You've welcomed him with rich blessings and
put a gold crown on his head.
-You granted his request for life, length of
    days, for ever.
-You've given him victories, great glory,
    splendour, majesty.
-You've given him eternal blessings, made him
glad with the joy of your presence.
-The king trusts you and your unfailing love
will keep him from being shaken.
The King will
  -Seize His enemies.
-At His appearing, make them like a fiery
furnace. In His wrath the Lord will summon
and with His fire consume them.
  -Destroy enemies' descendants.
-Make enemies, who plot evil and devise wicked
schemes, turn their backs when you confront
    them.

BE EXALTED O LORD IN YOUR STRENGTH! WE'LL SING
AND PRAISE YOUR MIGHT.

PSALM 22

My God, my God,
  -Why have you forsaken me?
  -Why don't you save me?
-Why don't you hear my groaning words?
-When I cry out day and night, why don't you
    answer?

Yet you're enthroned as the Holy One, the praise
of Israel.
-Our fathers trusted you and you delivered
    them.
-They cried out to you, were saved and not
    disappointed.

But (Lord),
  -I am a worm, not a man.
  -I am scorned by men.
-I am despised by the people.
-I am mocked by all who see me, they:
-Hurl insults, shaking their heads and
      saying,
    -"He trusts in the Lord;
Let the Lord rescue and deliver him

     since he delights in Him."
-You brought me forth from the womb.
-You made me trust you even at my mother's
    breast.
-You've been my God from my birth when I was
    cast upon you.
-Don't be far from me, for:
    -Trouble is near.
    -There's no one to help.
    -Strong bulls surround me.
-Roaring lions, tearing prey, open their
      mouths wide against me.
    -I'm poured out like water.
-All my bones are out of joint.
-My heart's turned to wax, it's melted away
      within me.
-My strength's dried up like a stone tablet.
-My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.
-You lay me in death's dust.
    -Dogs have surrounded me.
-A band of evil men encircle me:
-They've pierced my hands and feet.
-I can count all my bones.
-People stare and gloat over me.
-They divide my garments among them.
-And cast lots for my clothing.

But you O Lord my strength,
  -Don't be far off.
  -Come quickly to help me.
-Deliver my life from the sword, my precious
life from the power of the dogs.
-Rescue me from the lions' mouths.
-Save me from the wild oxens' horns.

I'll declare your name to my brothers and praise
you in the congregation.

You who fear the Lord:
  -Praise Him.
-Honour Him all you descendants of Jacob.
-Revere Him all you descendants of Israel for:
-He hasn't despised or disdained the
      suffering of the afflicted one.
-He hasn't hidden His face from him but
-He has listened to his cry for help.

From you (Lord) comes the theme of my praise in
the great assembly.
-Before those who fear you I'll fulfill my
    vows.
-The poor will eat and be satisfied.
-They who seek the Lord will praise Him.
  -May your hearts live forever.
-All the earth will remember and turn to the
    Lord.
-All the families of the nations will bow down
    before Him.
-For dominion belongs to the Lord, He rules
    over the nations.
-All the earth's rich will feast and worship.
-All about to die, who can't keep themselves
    alive, will kneel before Him.
  -Posterity will serve Him:
-Future generations will be told about the
      Lord.
-They'll proclaim His faithfulness to a
      people yet unborn.
      FOR HE HAS DONE IT.

      (Hallelujah!)

PSALM 23

The Lord
-Is my shepherd, I'll not want.
-Makes me lie down in green pastures,
  -Leads me beside still waters,
  -Restores my soul,
-Guides me in paths of righteousness for the
    honour of His name.

Even though I walk through the valley of the
shadow of death (Lord)
  -I'll fear no evil, for
    -You are with me.
-Your rod and staff comfort me.
-You prepare a table before me in my
      enemies' presence.
-You anoint my head with oil.
    -You make my cup overflow.

SURELY GOODNESS AND MERCY WILL FOLLOW ME ALL THE
DAYS OF MY LIFE, AND I'LL DWELL IN THE HOUSE OF
THE LORD FOREVER.

PSALM 24

The Lord made the earth and everything in it so
it belongs to Him.

But who can come to Him and stand in His holy
place? He who:
  -Has clean hands.
  -Has a pure heart.
-Doesn't lift up his soul to an idol.
  -Doesn't swear by what's false.
  -Seeks your face O God.

Such a person will receive:
  -Blessing from the Lord.
  -Vindication from God his Saviour.

So, gates and doors (of God's holy place), be
lifted up, that the King of Glory may come in.

Who is the King of Glory?
The Lord strong and mighty in battle,
       The Lord Almighty,
He is the King of Glory.

PSALM 25

O Lord:
-I lift up my soul to you.
  -I trust in you.
-Don't let me be made ashamed.
-No one who hopes in you will be.
-But the treacherous without excuse will be.
  -Show me your ways.
  -Teach me your paths.
-Guide me and teach me in your truth for:
    -You're God my Saviour.
-I hope in you all day long.
-Remember your great mercy and love from of
    old.
-Don't remember my youthful sins and
    rebellion.
-Remember me according to your love, for
    you're good.
-You're good and upright and instruct sinners
    in your ways.
-You guide the humble in what's right and
    teach them your way.
-All your ways are loving and faithful to
    those who obey your covenant.
-For your own sake, forgive my great iniquity.
-You'll instruct the man who has reverent
respect and awe for you in the way you've
chosen for him. He will prosper and his
    descendants will inherit the land.
-You confide in those who have reverent
respect and make your covenant known to
    them.

-I ever look to you for only you will release
    my feet from the snare.
-Turn and be gracious to me for I'm lonely and
    afflicted.
-My heart's troubles have multiplied, free me
    from this anguish.
-Look on my affliction and distress and remove
    my sins.
-See how my enemies increase and hate me
    fiercely.
-Guard my life, rescue me, don't put me to
    shame for you're my refuge.
-May integrity and uprightness protect me for
    I hope in you.
-Redeem Israel from all their troubles.

PSALM 26

O Lord,
-Vindicate me for I've led a blameless life.
-I've trusted in you without wavering.
-Test and try me, examine my heart and mind.
-Your love is ever before me and I walk in
    your truth continually.
-I don't sit with deceitful men or consort
    with hypocrites.
-I abhor the assembly of evildoers and won't
    sit with the wicked.
-With washed innocent hands I go about your
altar O Lord, proclaiming your praise and
    telling your wonderful deeds.
-I love where you live, where your glory
    dwells.
-Don't remove my soul and life when you remove
    sinners and bloodthirsty men whose:
-Hands hold wicked schemes and bribes.
-I lead a blameless life, redeem and be
    merciful to me.
With feet on level ground I'll praise you in the
great assembly.

PSALM 27

The Lord
-Is my light, salvation and stronghold, so who
    should I fear?
-Makes evil men who advance against me,
enemies and foes, stumble and fall.

Therefore:
-My heart won't fear even if an army besiege
    me.
-I'll be confident even if there's a war
    against me.

One thing I ask and seek of the Lord.
-That I may dwell in His house all my days,
-To gaze on His beauty and seek Him.

He will
  -Keep me safe.
  -Hide me in His shelter.
-Set me high on a rock.

Then, exalted above my surrounding enemies, I'll
sacrifice with joyful shouts, sing and make
music to the Lord.

O Lord,
  -Hear when I call.
-My heart says to seek your face so I do.
-My saviour and helper, don't hide, don't in
anger turn me away, reject or forsake me.
-My mother and father might forsake me but
    you'll receive me.
 -Teach me your way.
-Lead me in a straight path because of my
    oppressors.
-False witnesses violently oppose me, don't
    turn me over to them.
-I'm confident I'll see your goodness while I
    live.
BE STRONG, TAKE HEART AND WAIT FOR THE LORD.

PSALM 28

O Lord, my rock:
-I call and lift up my hands to you for mercy
    and help.
-If you don't answer I'm like a dead man.
-Don't drag me away with the wicked who do
    evil, concealing malicious intent with
    smooth words.
-Repay them what they deserve for their deeds,
the evil work of their hands.
-Tear them down permanently for disregarding
    the works of your hands.
-I praise you for hearing my cry for mercy.
  -You're my strength and shield.
-My heart trusts you and I'm helped.
-My heart leaps for joy and I thank you in
    song.
-You're the strength of your people.
-You're a fortress of salvation for your
anointed one (your Lord, Jesus Christ).
-SAVE YOUR PEOPLE AND BLESS YOUR INHERITANCE,
BE THEIR SHEPHERD AND CARRY THEM FOREVER.
(Your Lord, Jesus Christ, is the last full
answer to this prayer - see John's Gospel,
     Chapter 10, verses 11-14).

PSALM 29

Angelic hosts:
-Acknowledge the Lord's glory and strength.

-Give to the Lord the glory due His name.
-Worship Him in the splendour of His holiness.

The God of Glory thunders.

The voice of the Lord:
  -Thunders over the mighty waters.
  -Is powerful.
  -Is majestic.
-Breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.
-Makes Lebanon and Mount Hermon skip like a
calf and a young wild ox.
  -Strikes with flashes of lightning.
  -Shakes the desert.
  -Twists the oaks.
  -Strips the forests bare.

In His temple:
  -All cry glory.
  -The Lord's enthroned
    -Over the flood
    -As King forever.

The Lord strengthens His people and blesses them
with peace.

PSALM 30

O Lord,
  -I'll exalt you for:
-Lifting me out of the depths.
-Stopping my enemies gloating over me.
-I called for help and you healed me.
-You spared my life and brought me up from the
    grave.

You, the Lord's people, sing praise to His holy
name for:
  -His anger is momentary but
  -His favour lasts a lifetime.
-Weeping may remain for a night
-But rejoicing comes in the morning.

O Lord:
-You favoured me and made me secure
    -But I foolishly praised myself.
    -So you hid your face
    -And I was dismayed.
-So I called to you and cried for mercy.
      -If you destroy me
      -I can't praise you
      -Or proclaim your faithfulness
      -From the grave.
  -Hear, be merciful and help.
-You turned my sackcloth and wailing to joy
and dancing so that my heart may sing to you
    and not be silent.

O LORD MY GOD, I WILL GIVE YOU THANKS FOREVER.

PSALM 31

O Lord
  -You're my refuge.
  -Never let me be shamed.
  -Deliver me in your faithfulness.
  -Listen and quickly rescue.
  -Be my refuge rock.
-Be a strong fortress to save me.
-Since you're my rock and fortress, guard your
honour by leading and guiding me.
-You're my refuge, so free me from the trap
    set for me.
-Into your hands I commit my spirit, redeem me
    O God of truth.
  -I trust in you.
-I hate those clinging to worthless idols.
-I'll rejoice in your love for you saw my
    affliction and anguished soul.
-Instead of handing me over to my enemies,
you've put me in a spacious place.
-My eyes, body and soul are weak with sorrow
and grief, in my distress be merciful to me.
-My strength fails and bones grow weak because
    of my affliction.
-Anguish and groaning consume my life.
-I'm held in contempt by neighbours because of
    my enemies.
-Friends see me and flee in fear, they forget
me as a dead man, a broken pot.
-Slander, conspiracy and plots to take my life
    bring terror on every side.

But you are my God, I trust you:
-My life's in your hands, deliver me from
    enemies and pursuers.
-Let your face shine on your servant, save me
    in your unfailing love.
-I've cried to you, let the wicked instead of
me, be shamed in the grave:
-Their lying lips, which spoke with pride,
      contempt and arrogance against the
      faithful - silenced.
-Your great goodness is stored up and bestowed
publicly on those who fear you (positively)
    and take refuge in you.
Sheltered in your dwelling place they're
safe and hidden from men's intrigues and
    accusing tongues.

Praise the Lord:
-In a blessed city He showed His wonderful
    love to me.

-Alarmed I said, "I'm cut off from you." But
you heard my cry for mercy and help.

Love the Lord, all His faithful ones, He
preserves you but pays the proud back in full.

BE STRONG AND TAKE HEART ALL WHO HOPE IN THE
LORD.

PSALM 32

You'll have peace of heart:
-When your sins are forgiven and not counted
    against you
-And there's no deceit in your heart.

If you don't ask forgiveness:
  -You'll groan all day.
  -Your bones will waste away.
-Day and night God's hand will be heavy on
    you.

But if you acknowledge your sin to God, instead
of covering it up and say:
-"I'll confess my transgression to the Lord,"

God will forgive the guilt of your sin.

Therefore:
  -Pray to God
  -While you can.
-Then when trouble engulfs you, you'll
    survive.
  -Because
    -God is your hiding place.
    -He'll protect you from trouble.
-He'll surround you with songs of
      deliverance.

-Instruct and teach you the way to go.
    -Guide and watch over you.

So don't be
-Like a (stubborn) mule without understanding
which must be controlled by bit and bridle
  -Or many woes wait you.

AND THE LORD'S UNFAILING LOVE WILL SURROUND YOU
BECAUSE YOU TRUST IN HIM.

SO REJOICE IN THE LORD AND BE GLAD, SING YOU
UPRIGHT IN HEART.

PSALM 33

It's right to sing joyfully to the Lord and
praise Him:
  -You faithful and upright ones.
-Skilfully making music with harp and lyre,
    and joyful shout.
  -With a new song.

For the Lord
-Always acts faithfully, His word is right and
    true.
  -Loves faithfulness and justice.
-Fills the earth with His unfailing love.
-Spoke and made heaven's starry host.
-Controls the sea like a man holding water in
    a jar.
-Spoke and everything came to be.
-Commanded and it stood firm, therefore:
-Let all the earth hold Him in reverent awe.
-Let all earth's people revere Him.
-Foils nations' plans and people's purposes
when they're contrary to His will.
-Has plans and purposes of heart that stand

    firm forever, through all generations.
-Blesses the nations whose God He is, the
people He chose for His inheritance.
-Looks down from His heavenly dwelling
    watching all living on earth.
-Forms every heart and considers all they do,
    so
-Army size won't save a king.
-Great strength won't save a warrior.
-A strong horse won't save you.
-Looks upon all who hold Him in reverent awe,
who hope in His unfailing love to:
    -Deliver them from death.
    -Keep them alive in famine.

We wait in hope for the Lord, our help and
 shield.
Our hearts rejoice in Him for we trust His holy
 name.
O Lord, may your unfailing love rest on us,
As we put our hope in you.

PSALM 34

I'll praise and extol the Lord always.
My soul will boast in the Lord.
Let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Let's glorify and exalt the Lord's name
 together.
I sought the Lord, He answered and delivered me
 from all my fears.
Look to Him, be radiant, and never shame faced.
The poor man called, the Lord heard and saved
 Him from all troubles.
The Lord's angel surrounds and delivers those
 fearing Him.
Taste and see the Lord's good, take refuge in
 Him and be blessed.
God's people, who hold Him in reverent awe and
seek Him lack nothing, unlike lions that may
 grow weak and weary.
I'll teach you the reverent respect of the Lord:
-If you love life and want to see many good
    days:
    -Don't speak evil.
    -Don't speak lies.
-Turn from evil and do good.
    -Seek and pursue good.
The Lord's:
  -Eyes are on the faithful.
-Ears hear their cry and delivers them from
    trouble.
-Face is against evildoers to cut off their
    memory from earth.
The Lord:
-Is close to the broken hearted.
  -Saves the crushed in spirit.
-Delivers the faithful from all his many
troubles, so none of his bones are broken.
-Redeems His servants condemning none who take
    refuge in Him.

Evil will slay the wicked, and foes of the
faithful will be condemned.

PSALM 35

O, Lord:
-Contend with and fight against my enemies and
pursuers with shield, buckler, spear and
    javelin.
-Tell my soul, "You're my salvation."
-Disgrace, put to shame and turn back in
dismay, enemies and plotters against me.
-With your angel drive them away like wind
blown chaff and pursue them down dark

      slippery paths.
-Without cause they set a net and dug a pit
for me. May they be caught and ruined in
their own traps to their surprise.
  -Then
-My soul will delight and rejoice in the
      Lord's salvation.
-My whole being will exclaim, "Who is like
you, O Lord? You rescue the poor and needy
      from the strong and robbers.
  -Ruthless witnesses:
-Question me on things I know nothing about.
-Repay me evil for good leaving me forlorn.
-When they were ill, I wore sackcloth and
fasted, I mourned and grieved as for my
mother when my prayers (for their healing)
    weren't answered.
-When I stumbled, they gleefully secretly
    gathered, ceaselessly slandered and
    maliciously mocked me.
-How long will you look on?
-Rescue my precious life from these lions.
-Don't let my enemies without cause who hate,
and maliciously wink, gloat over me.
-They speak false accusations and not
peacably to those living quietly in the
      land.
-They gape at me and (falsely) say, "Our
eyes have seen it." (some supposed sin).
-You've seen this, don't be silent or far off.
  -Awake,
  -Rise to my defence.
  -Contend for me my God.
  -Vindicate me in your faithfulness.
  -Don't let them
    -Gloat over me.
    - Think, "Success, we've swallowed him up."
-Put to shame, disgrace and confusion all who
gloat over my distress and exalt themselves
    over me.
-May those who delight in my vindication:
    -Shout joyfully and gladly.
-Always say, "The Lord be exalted who
delights in the well being of His
      servant."

I'll speak of your faithfulness and praises all
the day long.

I'll give thanks and praise in the great
assembly among throngs of people.

PSALM 36

My heart tells me concerning the sinfulness of
the wicked:
-He has no fear (reverent awe) of God.
-He flatters himself too much to detect or
    hate his sin.
-His words are wicked and deceitful.
-He's ceased being wise and doing good.
  -He plots evil in bed.
-He commits himself to a sinful course.
-He doesn't reject what is wrong.

O Lord,
-Your love and faithfulness reaches to the
    heavens and skies.
-Your faithfulness is like the mighty
    mountains.
-Your justice like the great deep.
  -You preserve man and beast.
  -Your unfailing love is priceless.
-Anyone can find refuge in you and
-Feast on the abundance of your house.
-Drink from your river of delights.
-With you is the fountain of life.
  -In you we see light.
  -Continue your:
-Love to those who know you.
-Faithfulness to the upright in heart.
-May the foot and hand of the proud and wicked
not come against or drive me away.

See the evildoers fallen, thrown down, unable to
rise.

PSALM 37

Don't fret because of evil men or envy
wrongdoers.
-Like grass and green plants they'll soon
    wither and die.
Instead:
-Trust the Lord and do good.
  -Dwell safely in the land.
-Delight in, commit your way to the Lord,
    trust Him and He will:
    -Give you your heart's desires.
-Make your faithfulness shine like the dawn.
-Make your just cause like the noonday sun.
-Be still before the Lord, wait patiently for
    Him.
-Don't be angry and fret when men's wicked
schemes succeed, it only leads to evil and:
-Evil men will soon be cut off. If you look
      you won't find them.
-But the meek, whose hope is in the Lord,
will inherit the land and enjoy great
      peace.
-The wicked plot to slay the faithful, poor,
needy and upright with sword and bows.
-But their own swords will pierce their
hearts and their bows will be broken.
-The Lord laughs at them, He knows their day

    is coming.

Better to be faithful, poor and upheld by the
Lord than wicked, wealthy and broken by the
Lord.

The blameless:
  -Are known to the Lord.
  -Their inheritance is eternal.
-He looks after them in disaster and famine.
But the wicked:
-Are the Lord's enemies, they'll perish,
    vanish like smoke.

The faithful give generously, those God blesses
inherit the land.
But the wicked borrow and don't repay, those God
curses are cut off.

If the Lord delights in a man's way:
  -He makes his steps firm.
-HE MAY STUMBLE BUT NOT FALL
-BECAUSE THE LORD'S HAND UPHOLDS HIM.

I'M OLD NOW, BUT I'VE NEVER SEEN THE FAITHFUL
FORSAKEN:
-They're always generous and lend freely.
-Their children are blessed, I've never seen
    them begging bread.

Faithful ones,
TURN FROM EVIL AND DO GOOD AND YOU'LL INHERIT
AND DWELL IN THE LAND FOREVER FOR:
  -The Lord loves the just.
  -He won't forsake the faithful.
  -They'll be protected forever.
But the offspring of the wicked will be cut off.

The faithful man speaks wisdom and justice.

God's law is in his heart. His feet don't slip.
But:
-The wicked seek to kill the faithful.
-However, the Lord won't leave them in his
power or let them be condemned if tried.

WAIT FOR THE LORD, KEEP HIS WAY. HE'LL EXALT YOU
TO INHERIT THE LAND. YOU'LL SEE THE WICKED CUT
OFF.
You may see him flourishing like a healthy tree
but soon he'll be gone, nowhere to be seen.

LOOK AT THE BLAMELESS, THE UPRIGHT, THE MAN OF
PEACE HAS A FUTURE.
BUT ALL SINNERS WILL BE DESTROYED, THERE'S NO
FUTURE FOR THE WICKED.

Salvation for the faithful comes from the Lord.
He's their stronghold in troubled times. The
Lord helps and delivers them from the wicked
because they take refuge in Him.

PSALM 38

O Lord don't rebuke and discipline me in anger,
for
  -Your arrows have pierced.
-Your hand has come down heavy.
-I've no health, my back's filled with pain.
-I've no sound bones and wounds fester due to
    sinful folly.
-Guilt overwhelms me, it's an unbearable
    burden.
-Bowed down, brought low, I mourn all day.
-I'm feeble, utterly crushed, groaning with
    anguished heart.
-My longing and sighing aren't hidden from
    you.
-My heart pounds, strength fails, eyesight
    fails.
-Friends, companions and neighbours shun me
    due to my wounds.
-Enemies set traps to kill, talk of my ruin
    and plot deception.
-I'm like a deaf and dumb man.

Lord, my God, I wait for you, you'll answer.
-Don't let them gloat and exalt over my
stumbling for with increasing pain I'm about
    to fall.
-Troubled by sin, I confess my iniquity.
-Many vigorous enemies hate without reason.
-They repay my good with evil and slander.

Lord don't forsake me or be far away.
Come quickly to help me O Lord my saviour.

PSALM 39

I said, I'll
-Watch my ways, muzzle and not sin with my
    mouth, whilst with the wicked.

But silent and still, my anguish increased.
Meditating, my heart grew hot and I said
-O Lord, show me how fleeting my life is.
-Before you it's a mere breath.
-Man is a phantom, bustling about vainly
    making money - for whom?

Lord, what hope do I have?
  -My hope is in you.
  -Save me from my sins.
  -Don't make fools scorn me.
-I suffer what you do silently.
-I'm overcome by your hand's blow, remove your

    scourge.
-You rebuke and discipline men for their sin
    and consume their wealth.
  -Each man's a mere breath.

Hear my prayer, cry and weeping O Lord. I dwell
with you, a passing pilgrim like my fathers.
Look away from me that I may rejoice again
before I die.

PSALM 40

Waiting patiently for the Lord He:
-Heard my cry, turned and lifted me from the
slime, mud and mire of the pit.
-Set my foot on a rock, a firm place to stand.
-Put a new song, a hymn of praise, in my
    mouth.

Many will see, fear and put their trust in the
 Lord.
The man who makes the Lord his trust has peace
of heart. He doesn't look to the proud who turn
 to false gods.

O Lord, my God, you've done many wonders.
The things you've planned for us are
 innumerable.
You don't want sacrifice and offering.
You've opened my ears.
Then I said, "I'm here, just as writings
 predicted.
I DELIGHT TO DO YOUR WILL O GOD, YOUR LAW IS
 WITHIN MY HEART."

I'm unrestrained in proclaiming faithfulness in
the great assembly as you know.
I don't hide your faithfulness in my heart, but

I speak of it and your salvation, and don't hide
your love and truth from the great assembly.

Give me your mercy O Lord,
Let your love and truth always protect me.
Innumerable troubles surround me.
-My sins have overtaken and blinded me.
-They're innumerable, so my heart fails me.

Please Lord, quickly help and save me.
Put to shame and confusion and turn back in
disgrace all who desire my ruin and seek my
life. Make them appalled at their own shame.

Let all who seek you, rejoice and be glad in you.
May those who love your salvation always say,
 "The Lord be exalted."
I'm poor and needy, may the Lord think of me.
You're my help and my deliverer, O my God.
Don't delay.

PSALM 41

Care for the weak and you'll have the Lord's:
-Peace of heart in the land.
  -Protection from foes, preservation and
    deliverance from trouble.
  -Restoration from illness.

I said, Lord,
-Have mercy and hear me for I've sinned
    against you.
-My enemies maliciously say, "When will he
    die?"
-One visits, speaks falsely and his heart
gathers slander which he then spreads
      abroad.
-Enemies whisper against me and imagine the

      worst saying:
-A vile disease will kill him on his bed.
-Even a trusted close friend, who ate my
        food, has turned against me.

But you, O Lord,
  -Have mercy.
-Raise me up so I can repay them.
-Are pleased with me for my enemies don't
    triumph.
-Uphold me in my integrity and set me in your
    presence forever.

Praise the Lord, Israel's God from everlasting
to everlasting.

PSALM 42.

O God,
-My soul pants for you as a deer pants for
    water.
-My soul thirsts for the living God, where can
    I meet Him?
-I cry night and day while all day people say,
    "Where's your God?"
-As I pour out my soul, I remember how I used
to lead the multitude to the house of God
    with joy and thanksgiving.

O my soul,
-Why are you downcast and disturbed?
-Hope in God, I'll yet praise Him, my Saviour
    and my God.
-You're downcast, remembering God as from a
distant place where breaking waves sweep
    over me.

The Lord:
-By day directs His love and at night -
-His song is within me a -
-Prayer to the God of my life.
-I say to Him, my rock:
    -Why have you forgotten me?
-Why must I mourn oppressed by my enemy?
-My bones are in mortal agony.
-My foes taunt me all day saying, "Where's
      your God?"

Why are you downcast and disturbed within me O
my soul?
PUT YOUR HOPE IN GOD FOR I'LL PRAISE HIM MY
SAVIOUR AND MY GOD.

PSALM 43

O God,
-Vindicate me, rescue me from the deceitful
and wicked, and plead my cause against an
    ungodly nation.
-You're my stronghold, why have you rejected
    me?
-Why must I mourn oppressed by the enemy?
-Send your light and truth to guide me to your
holy mountain where you dwell, my joy and
delight, then I'll go to your altar.
-I'll praise you with the harp, my God.

Why are you downcast and disturbed my soul?
PUT YOUR HOPE IN GOD, FOR I'LL YET PRAISE HIM MY
SAVIOUR AND GOD.

PSALM 44

O God:
  -Our fathers told us how
-You drove out nations (to give them a

      homeland).
-You planted them and made them flourish.
-It was your right hand and arm, the light of
your face as you loved them, that brought
victory - not their military prowess.
  -My king and my God
    -You decree our victories.
-Through you we defeat our enemies.
-My bow and sword don't bring victory.
    -It's you who does it.
-So we boast of you all day long and praise
      your name forever.

But now you
  -Have rejected and humbled us.
  -No longer accompany our armies.
-Make us retreat so our enemies plundered us.
-Allow us to be devoured and scattered among
    nations.
-Sold us for a pittance, getting nothing for
    us.
-Have made us a reproach to our neighbours and
subjects of their scorn and derision.
-Make me shame faced, disgraced all day long
by the taunts, reproaches and reviling of my
    vengeful enemy.
-Have crushed us and covered us with deep
    darkness.

All this happened to us:
-Though we hadn't forgotten you or broken your
    covenant.
-Though our hearts haven't turned back or our
    feet strayed from your path.
-Though we haven't forgotten you or turned to
foreign gods. If we had, you'd know, for you
    know heart's secrets.
-Though we face death all day long and are as
    sheep for slaughtering.

O Lord:
  -Awake, don't reject us forever.
-Why hide your face and forget our misery and
    oppression.
-Our bodies cling to the ground's dust.
-RISE UP AND HELP US REDEEM US BECAUSE OF YOUR
    UNFAILING LOVE.

PSALM 45

My heart's stirred by a noble theme, I skilfully
write and recite verses for the king, the most
excellent of men:
-Your lips have been anointed with grace.
  -God has blessed you forever.
-Gird on your sword, clothe yourself with
    splendour and majesty.
-In majesty, ride forth victoriously for
    truth, humility and faithfulness.
-Do awesome deeds with your right hand:
-Your arrows piercing the hearts of the
      king's enemies.
    -Nations falling beneath your foot.
-Your throne, O God, will last forever.
-Justice will be the sceptre of your kingdom.
-You love faithfulness and hate wickedness
    therefore God, your God
-Has set you above your companions
-By anointing you with the oil of joy.
-All your robes are fragrant with myrrh, aloes
    and cassia.
-From ivory adorned palaces stringed music
    makes you glad.
-Your honoured women include king's daughters.
-At your right hand is the queen in gold from

    Ophir.

Daughter, listen and consider
-Forget your people and your father's house.
-The king's enthralled with your beauty.
-Honour him for he's your lord.
-Tyre's daughter will bring a gift.
-Wealthy men will seek your favour.

-The princess is glorious in her chamber
    -Her gown interwoven with gold.
-In embroidered garments she's led to the king
-Followed by virgin companions and brought
      to you.
-Led in with joy and gladness they enter the
      king's palace.

Your sons will replace your fathers.
You'll make them princes throughout the land.

I'LL MAKE YOUR NAME REMEMBERED THROUGH ALL
GENERATIONS SO NATIONS WILL PRAISE YOU FOREVER.

PSALM 46

God's our refuge and strength
An ever present help in trouble.
Therefore we won't fear though the
  -Earth gives way.
-Mountains fall into the sea and
    -Its waters roar and foam
    -Making the mountains shake.

There's a river whose streams make glad the city
of God.
-The holy place where the most high dwells.
-God's within her, He'll help her at dawn so
    she won't fall.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall.
God lifts His voice, the earth melts.

The Almighty is with us
The God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see the Lord's works
-Desolations He's brought on the earth.
-How He makes all wars cease, breaking bows,
    shattering spears, burning shields.

BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD.
I'LL BE EXALTED AMONG NATIONS AND ON EARTH.

THE LORD ALMIGHTY IS WITH US.
THE GOD OF JACOB IS OUR FORTRESS.

PSALM 47

All nations clap your hands shout to God with
joy. The Lord most high, king over all the
earth, is awesome. For He:
  -Subdued nations under us.
-Chose our inheritance for us, Jacob's pride
    whom He loved.

God has ascended
  -Amid shouts of joy.
  -Amid sounding trumpets.
-Sing praises, sing a psalm of praise to God.
-Sing praises, sing praises to our king for:
-God's king of all the earth.
    -God reigns over the nations.
-God's seated on His holy throne.
-Nations' nobles assemble as the people of
Abraham's God for earth's kings belong to
      God.
    -He is greatly exalted.
PSALM 48

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise in
His holy mountain, the city of our God:
  -Beautiful in its loftiness.
-The joy of the whole earth.
-Mt Zion, the city of the great king.
-Whose fortress is God, who is in her
    citadels.
  -Whose enemies
-Join forces, advance, see her and flee in
      terror.
-You destroyed like ships of Tarshish
      shattered by an east wind.

As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of
our God, the Lord Almighty God makes her secure
forever.

In your Temple, O God, we meditate on your
unfailing love.
-Your praise, like your name, reaches to
    earth's ends.
-Your right hand's filled with faithfulness.
-Mt Zion rejoices, Judah's villages are glad
    because of your judgments.

Walk around Zion,
  -Count her towers,
  -Consider her ramparts,
  -View her citadels,
So you may tell of them in the next generation.
FOR THIS GOD IS OUR GOD FOR EVER AND EVER; HE'LL
BE OUR GUIDE EVEN TO THE END.

PSALM 49

Hear and listen all the world's people, low and
high rich and poor:

  -I'll speak wisdom.
-The utterance from my heart will give
    understanding.
  -I'll listen to a proverb.
-I'll expound my riddle with the harp.
-Why should I fear evil days surrounded by
      wicked deceivers.
-Who trust their wealth and boast of it.
-For the wise, foolish and senseless all die
-And leave their wealth to others.
      -Tombs are their houses forever.
-Even though they named lands after
        themselves.
-Man despite his riches, perishes like the
      beasts.
-That's the fate of those who trust
      themselves.
-And of their followers who approve of
        their sayings.
-Like sheep they're destined for the
        grave.
-In the morning the upright will rule over
        them.
-And they'll decay in the grave
      -Far from their princely mansions.

No man can redeem another's life
-Or give God a ransom for him.
-The ransom for a life is costly.
    -No payment is ever enough
-That he should live forever and not see
      decay.

BUT GOD WILL REDEEM MY LIFE FROM THE GRAVE, HE
WILL SURELY TAKE ME TO HIMSELF.

So don't be overawed by a rich man and his

splendid house.
-He'll take nothing to the grave, not even his
    splendour.
  -Living, he counted himself blessed.
-And men praise you when you prosper.
-But like his fathers, he'll die never seeing
    the light of life.
-A rich man without understanding is like the
    beasts that perish.

PSALM 50

The mighty one, God, the Lord speaks and summons
all the earth:
-From Zion, perfect in beauty God shines
    forth.
-Our God comes but not silently.
    -A fire devours before Him.
    -A tempest rages round Him.
-He summons heaven and earth that He may judge
    His people,
-"Gather to me my consecrated ones
-Who made a covenant with me by sacrifice."
-The heavens proclaim His faithfulness for God
    Himself is judge.

"Hear, O my people and I'll speak, testifying
against you:
  -I am God, your God.
-I don't rebuke you for your sacrifices and
burnt offerings which are ever before me.
-But I don't need your bulls or goats.
-Every animal and bird in the world is mine.
-I wouldn't tell you if I were hungry, for
the world and everything in it is mine.
-Do I eat bull's flesh or drink goat's
        blood?
  -Sacrifice thank offerings.
  -Fulfill your vows
-And call upon me in the day of trouble.
-I'll deliver you and you'll honour me."

But God says to the wicked
-You've no right to recite my laws
-Or take my covenant on your lips, for you
    -Hate my instruction.
    -Cast my words behind you.
    -Join with thieves.
-Throw in your lot with adulterers.
-Use your mouth for evil and deceit.
-Speak against and slander your brother.
-You've done this, I've kept silent, so you've
    thought I'm like you.
-BUT I REBUKE AND ACCUSE YOU TO YOUR FACE.
-CONSIDER THIS YOU WHO FORGET GOD OR I'LL TEAR
YOU TO PIECES WITH NONE TO RESCUE.

-HE WHO SACRIFICES THANK OFFERINGS HONOURS ME
  -AND PREPARES THE WAY
-SO I MAY SHOW HIM THE SALVATION OF GOD.

PSALM 51

O God
-Have mercy on me according to your
    -Unfailing love.
    -Great compassion.
      -Blot out my transgressions.
      -Wash away all my iniquity.
      -Cleanse me from my sin.
  -For I know my transgressions.
-My sin is ever before me.
-Against you only have I sinned
-And done evil in your sight.
-So what you speak and judge is right.
-I've been sinful since conception and

      birth.

-You desire truth in the inner parts.
-You teach me wisdom in the inmost place.
-Cleanse me with hyssop and I'll be clean.
-Wash me and I'll be whiter than snow.
-Let me hear joy and gladness.
-Let the bones you've crushed rejoice.
-Hide your face from my sins.
    -Blot out my iniquity.
-Create a new heart within me.
-Renew a steadfast spirit within me.
-Don't cast me from your presence.
-Don't take your Holy Spirit from me.
-Restore me to the joy of your salvation.
-Grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.

  -Then
    -I'll teach transgressors your ways.
-And sinners will turn back to you.

-Save me from bloodguilt, you who saves me
-And I'll sing of your faithfulness.
-My Lord, open my lips and I'll declare your
    praise.

-You don't delight in sacrifice or burnt
    offerings.
-THE SACRIFICES OF GOD ARE A BROKEN SPIRIT
A BROKEN AND CONTRITE HEART YOU'LL NOT
      DESPISE.

-Make Zion prosper, build up Jerusalem's walls
    -Then there'll be faithful sacrifices,
    -Burnt offerings to delight you.

PSALM 52

Why boast of evil all day, you, who are a

disgrace in God's eyes?
  -Your razor sharp tongue:
    -Plots destruction.
    -Practises deceit.
    -Loves:
      -Evil not good.
      -Falsehood not truth.
      -Harmful words.
God will:
  -Bring you to everlasting ruin,
-Snatch up and uproot you from the land of the
    living.
  -Tear you from your tent.
The faithful will:
  -See and fear.
-Laugh at him and say this man:
    -Didn't make God his stronghold.
    -Trusted his great wealth.
    -Destroyed others to get strong.
But I
-Am like an olive tree, flourishing in God's
    house.
  -Trust God's unfailing eternal love.
-Will praise you forever for what you've done.
-Will hope in your good name.
-Will praise you in the saints' presence.

PSALM 53

God looks down from heaven to see if any man
  -Understands.
  -Seeks God
    (and finds that)
-The fool, says in his heart, there's no
      God.
-Everyone's turned away and become corrupt.
    -Their ways are vile.
-Not a single one does good.

Will evildoers never learn, those who
-Devour my people as they would bread.
  -Don't call on God.
  -Are overwhelmed with dread,
    -When there's nothing to dread.

God scattered the bones of your attackers.
  -You shamed them.
  -For God despises them.

O that Israel's salvation would come from Zion
when God restores their fortunes, let
  -Jacob rejoice,
  -Israel be glad.

PSALM 54

O my God, by your name,
  -Save me.
  -Vindicate me by your might.
  -Hear my prayer.
  -Listen to my words.
    -Strangers attack me.
-Ruthless men disregarding God seek my life.
-Let evil recoil on my slanderers.
    -Destroy them in your faithfulness.
God is my help, He sustains me.
O Lord, I will
-Sacrifice a freewill offering to you.
  -Praise your good name.
For He has
  -Saved me from all troubles.
-Given me triumph over my foes.

PSALM 55

O God, hear my prayer

  -Answer me.
-With troubled thoughts I'm distraught at
    -My enemy's voice,
    -The wicked's stares, they:
      -Bring suffering on me.
      -Revile me in their anger.
  -My heart's in anguish.
  -Death's terrors assail me.
  -Fear and trembling beset me.
  -Horror overwhelms me.
  -If I had a dove's wings I'd hurriedly fly
away, stay in the desert and find rest and
shelter far from tempest and storm.
-Confuse the wicked, confound their speech,
    for in the city:
    -There's violence, strife, malice and
-The wicked prowl day and night.
    -Destructive forces are at work.
-Threats and lies never leave its streets.
-I could endure an enemy's insults, I could
    hide from him
-(But I'm attacked by) my companion and close
    friend:
-With whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship
as we walked with God's people at his
      house.
-Who attacks friends and violates his
      covenant.
-Whose words are smooth as butter and
      soothing as oil.
      -But they're drawn swords.
      -War is in his heart.
  -Let death surprise my enemies.
    -Let them be buried alive
    -For evil lodges among them.

I cry out in distress to God evening morning and

noon and He
  -Hears me and saves me.
-Ransoms me unharmed from the battle waged
    against me by many enemies.
-Who is enthroned forever will hear and
afflict men who never change their way and
have no fear (respectful awe) of God.

CAST YOUR CARES ON THE LORD AND HE WILL
  -SUSTAIN YOU.
  -NEVER LET THE FAITHFUL FALL.
  -Bring wicked, bloodthirsty deceitful men
-Down in the pit of destruction
    -In their mid life.

BUT AS FOR ME I'LL TRUST IN YOU.

PSALM 56

O God be merciful to me
-For proud slanderers all day hotly pursue and
    attack me, they:
    -Twist my words.
    -Plot to harm me.
-Conspire, lurk, watch my steps, eager to
      take my life.
  -Don't let them escape.
-In your anger bring the nations down.
-Record my lament, my tears on your scroll.
-Then enemies will retreat when I call for
      help.
-AND I'LL KNOW THAT GOD IS FOR ME.

God the Lord
  -Whose word I praise,
-I TRUST YOU AND THEREFORE AM UNAFRAID, FOR
WHAT CAN MAN DO TO ME?
-My vows to you are binding.
-I'll give you thank (praise) offerings for
    you've saved me from
    -Death.
    -Stumbling feet.
-THAT I MAY WALK BEFORE GOD IN THE LIGHT OF
    LIFE.

PSALM 57

O God have mercy on me, my soul takes refuge in
you under the shadow of your wings until
disaster passes.

I cry out to God most high who
  -Fulfills His purpose for me.
-Sends His love and faithfulness from heaven
    and
    -Saves me.
    -Rebukes my hot pursuers for
      -I'm among ravenous lions.
-Men with spears and arrows for teeth and
        sharp swords for tongues.
      -I'm bowed in distress.
-They've spread a net and dug a pit to
trap me but have fallen into it
        themselves.

Be exalted, O God above the heavens, let your
glory cover the earth.
  -My heart's steadfast.
  -I'll sing and make music.
  -Awake my soul.
  -Awake harp and lyre.
  -I'll awaken the dawn.
-I'll praise and sing of you among nations and
    people.
FOR YOUR GREAT LOVE AND FAITHFULNESS REACHES THE
HEAVENS.
BE EXALTED, O GOD ABOVE THE HEAVENS, LET YOUR
GLORY COVER THE EARTH.

PSALM 58

Do you rulers speak justly or judge uprightly?
No!
  -Your heart devises injustice.
  -Your hands commit violence.
  -From birth the wicked
    -Go astray.
    -Are wayward and lie.
-Are venomous like a cobra snake which won't
      heed the skilful charmer's flute.

O God
-Break their teeth, tear their fangs out.
-Let them vanish like water poured on dry
    ground.
  -Make their arrows blunt.
-Like melting slug or stillborn child may they
    not see the sun.
-Sweep the wicked away quicker than food pots
    feel the fire's heat.
-The faithful will be glad when they're
    avenged in the wicked's blood.
-THEN MEN WILL SAY, "SURELY THE FAITHFUL ARE
REWARDED, THERE IS A GOD WHO JUDGES THE
    EARTH."

PSALM 59

O Lord, God Almighty, Israel's God
-Save and deliver me from evil fierce
    bloodthirsty enemies who
-Conspire and lie in wait to attack
-Though I've not sinned, offended or done
      wrong.
-Arise, look on my plight and help.
  -Rouse yourself, punish nations.
-Show no mercy to wicked traitors who
-Like snarling dogs return at evening and
prowl the city wandering for food and
howling if not satisfied, spewing swords
from their mouths and saying "Who can hear
      us?"
-You, O Lord, laugh and scoff at all those
    nations.

-O MY STRENGTH, FORTRESS AND LOVING GOD I
    WATCH FOR YOU.
-Go before me, let me gloat over my slanderers
-But don't kill them, O Lord our shield
    -Or my people will forget.
-In your might make them wander around and
      bring them down.
-For their mouths' sins, their curses and
        lies.
      -Catch them in their pride.
      -Consume them totally in wrath.
-Then to earth's ends it will be known
      THAT GOD RULES OVER JACOB.

-I'LL SING OF YOUR STRENGTH AND LOVE IN THE
MORNING FOR YOU'RE MY FORTRESS, MY REFUGE IN
TROUBLE, O, MY STRENGTH I'LL SING PRAISE TO
YOU. YOU, O GOD, ARE MY FORTRESS, MY LOVING
    GOD.

PSALM 60

O God
-You've angrily burst forth on us and rejected
    us,
    -Shaking and tearing the land.
-Shown your people desperate times, and made
      us stagger like drunkards.
-Now restore us and mend the fractured quaking
    land.
-Those who (have reverent awe) fear you, rally
under your banner (against the foe).
-Save, help and deliver those that you love,
    with your right hand.
  -You've spoken and said,
"I'll triumphantly give you land west and
east of the Jordan, the land promised Israel
where I'll rule. And victory over and
    protection from, your hostile neighbours."
-But you've rejected us, so give us help
    against the enemy
    -For man's help is worthless.
WITH GOD'S HELP WE'LL BE VICTORIOUS AND HE WILL
TRAMPLE DOWN OUR ENEMIES.

PSALM 61

O God
-My heart grows faint, from earth's ends I cry
    and pray to you.
  -Listen and hear.
-Lead me to the rock higher than I.
-You've been my refuge, a strong tower against
    the enemy.
  -I long to
    -Dwell with you forever.
-Take refuge sheltered by your wings.
-You've heard my vows and given me the
heritage of those who fear (have awe and
    respect for) your name.
-Increase the king's life for many
    generations.
-Enthrone him in God's presence forever.
-In love and faithfulness protect him.

THEN I'LL EVER SING PRAISE TO YOUR NAME AND
FULFILL MY VOWS DAILY.
PSALM 62

God:
-In Him alone my soul finds rest.
-My salvation and hope comes from Him.
-Alone is my rock, salvation and fortress so
    I'll never be shaken.

(Enemies):
-How long will you assault a weakened man to
    destroy him.
-Delighting in lies, blessing with their
mouths, but cursing in their hearts.
-Fully intend to topple him from his lofty
    place.

God:
-My salvation and honour depend on Him.
-Is my mighty rock and refuge.
  -Trust Him always O people.
-Pour your hearts out to Him.
    -He is our refuge.
-Don't trust in extortion or be proud of
      stolen goods.
-If your riches increase, don't set your
      heart on them.
-Men, whether high or low born, are a mere
breath, if weighed on a balance, they're
      nothing.
GOD HAS SPOKEN ONE THING AND I'VE HEARD TWO,
NAMELY:
  -O God you're strong.
  -O Lord you're loving.
Surely you'll reward each person according to
his deeds.

PSALM 63

O God, you are my God.

  -Earnestly I seek you.
-For you my soul thirsts and my body longs in
    a dry, weary, waterless land.

-I've seen you in the sanctuary.
-I've beheld your power and glory.
-Your love is better than life so:
-I'll praise and glorify you as long as I
      live.
-In your name I'll lift up my hands.
-My soul will be satisfied as with rich
      foods.
-I'll praise you with singing lips.
-I'll remember and think of you on my bed
      and through the night.
  -Because you're my help.
-I sing in your wings' shadow.
    -My soul clings to you.
    -Your right hand upholds me.
-Those who seek to destroy my life will
      -Be slain by the sword.
      -Become jackals' food.
      -Go to earth's depths.
-THE KING WILL REJOICE IN GOD, ALL WHO SWEAR
BY HIS NAME WILL PRAISE HIM, WHILE LIARS'
    MOUTHS WILL BE SILENCED.

PSALM 64

O God
  -Hear my complaint.
-Protect my life from the enemy's threat. Hide
me from conspiring wicked evildoers, who
    -Have tongues like swords.
-Have words like arrows shot at the innocent
      man:

      -From ambush
      -Suddenly
      -Without fear.
    -Encourage each other's evil plans.
-Talking of hiding snares and saying
         "Who'll see us?"
      -Plotting injustice and saying
         "We've devised a perfect plan."
-Surely the mind and heart of man is cunning.

  -But you will
-Suddenly strike them down with arrows.
-Turn their tongues against them and ruin
      them:
All who see this will scorn them.

-ALL MANKIND WILL FEAR, PROCLAIM GOD'S WORKS
AND PONDER WHAT HE'S DONE. LET THE FAITHFUL
   AND UPRIGHT IN HEART:
    -REJOICE IN THE LORD.
    -TAKE REFUGE IN HIM.
    -PRAISE HIM.

PSALM 65

O God
  -Praise awaits you in Zion.
-Our vows will be fulfilled to you.
  -You hear prayer.
-All men will come to you.
-When overwhelmed by sins you forgave our
    transgressions.
-Those you choose and bring to live in your
courts are blessed (have peace of heart).
-We're filled with the good things of your
      holy temple.
-You answer us with awesome deeds of
    faithfulness.
  -Our Saviour
-You're the hope of all earth's ends.
-You armed yourself with strength and formed
      the mountains by your power.
    -You stilled
      -The roaring seas.
      -The nations' turmoil.
-People living far away fear your wonders.
-Where morning dawns and evening fades
-You call forth songs of joy.
-You care for the land, water and enrich it
      abundantly:
-Ordaining the provision of people with
        grain.
-Filling the streams of God with water.
      -Drenching its furrows,
      -Levelling its ridges,
      -Softening it with showers.
      -Blessing its crops.
-Crowning the year with your bounty so
        your carts overflow with abundance.
      -Making desert grasslands overflow.
      -Clothing the hills with gladness.
      -Covering meadows with flocks.
      -Planting valleys with grain.
THEY SHOUT FOR JOY AND SING.

PSALM 66

All the earth
  -Shout with joy to God.
-Sing the glory of His name.
  -Make His praise glorious.
  -Say to God
    -Your deeds are awesome.
-Your power's so great your enemies cringe
      before you.
-All the earth bows down and sings praise to

      your name.
-Come and see what God's done, His awesome
    works for men.
-Turning the sea dry so His people walked
      through it so
      -Come let's rejoice in Him.
    -Ruling forever by His power.
    -Watching the nations so
-Let the rebellious not rise against Him.
-Let the sound of God's praise be heard, O
    peoples for He's
    -Preserved our lives.
    -Kept our feet from slipping.
You've tested and refined us like silver by:
  -Imprisoning and burdening our backs.
-Letting men ride over our heads.
-Putting us through fire and water.
You've brought us to a place of abundance.

I will
-Bring burnt offerings to your temple.
-Fulfill my vows made to you when I was in
    trouble.
-Sacrifice fat animals, rams, bulls and goats.
-Tell you who fear (have reverent awe for)
God, what He's done for me.

I cried out to Him and praised Him.
-If I'd cherished sin in my heart He wouldn't
    have listened.
  -But He heard my prayer.

PRAISE BE TO GOD WHO'S NOT REJECTED MY PRAYER OR
WITHHELD HIS LOVE FROM ME.

PSALM 67

God be gracious, bless and make your face shine

on us so that:
-Your ways may be known on earth and
  -Your salvation among the nations
  -All peoples may praise you
-The nations may gladly sing for joy for you:
    -Rule them justly.
    -Guide them.

THEN THE LAND WILL YIELD ITS HARVEST AND GOD OUR
GOD WILL BLESS US.
GOD WILL BLESS US AND ALL THE ENDS OF THE EARTH
WILL FEAR HIM (HOLD HIM IN REVERENT AWE).

PSALM 68

May God arise and
-His enemies be scattered and flee like smoke
    blown by the wind.
-The wicked perish like wax melts before the
    fire.
May the righteous (faithful)
-Rejoice, be glad, happy and joyful.

Sing praise to God's name.
-Extol Him who rides on the clouds.
-Rejoice before the Lord God in His holy
    dwelling:
    -A father to the fatherless.
    -A defender of widows.
-Who sets the lonely in families.
-Who leads prisoners forth with singing but
-The rebellious live in a sun scorched
        land.
When you, the One of Sinai, the God of Israel,
went out before your people, O God
  -You marched through the wasteland.
  -The earth shook.
  -Heavens poured abundant showers
    -To refresh your weary inheritance.
      -Your people settled in it.
-From your bounty you provided for the
        poor.
  -You said the word
-A great company proclaimed it and
-Kings and armies fled hastily, leaving
        you to divide the plunder.
-While you rested in camp the Almighty
        scattered the land's kings.
-Majestic Mt Hermon envies (humble Mt Zion),
the mountain where God chooses to reign and
    dwell forever.
  -God's chariots number thousands and
    thousands.
-You came from Sinai, ascended on high to your
    sanctuary (on Mt Zion) and:
    -Led captives in your train.
    -Received gifts from men.
      -Even from the rebellious.
-That you, O Lord, might dwell there.

-Praise the Lord God our Saviour and daily
    burden bearer.
-You're a God who saves, the sovereign Lord
    who:
    -Gives escape from death.
-Will surely crush His enemies' heads.
-Those who go on in their sins.
-Will gather enemies from east of the Jordan
to the Mediterranean Sea for you to
      defeat.

-The procession of my God and king into His
    sanctuary has come into view.
-Singers in front, then musicians with
      maidens playing tambourines.
-They're led by the little tribe of
      Benjamin.

-The great throng of Judah's princes are
      there.
-As are the princes of Zebulun and Napthali.

O God
-Summon your power, show your strength as
    you've done before.
-Kings will bring gifts to your temple at
    Jerusalem.
-Rebuke Egypt, humbled may it bring silver
    bars.
-Scatter nations who delight in war (that
    Israel may have peace).

O kingdoms of the earth
  -Sing praises to God
-Who rides the ancient skies above in power.
-Who thunders with a mighty voice.
    -Proclaim God's power,
-Whose majesty is over Israel powerful in
        the skies.

YOU'RE AWESOME IN YOUR SANCTUARY; ISRAEL'S GOD
GIVES POWER AND STRENGTH TO HIS PEOPLE.

PRAISE BE TO GOD!

PSALM 69

Save me O God
-Water is up to my neck.
-Sinking in miry depths there's no foothold.
-In deep waters, floods engulf me.
-My throat's parched from calling for help,
    I'm worn out.
-Looking for you my eyes fail.
-Those who hate me without reason and seek to
destroy me outnumber the hairs of my head.
-I'm forced to restore what I didn't steal.
-My folly and guilt isn't hidden from you.
-May those who seek and hope in you, O Lord
    Almighty, Israel's God,
-Not be disgraced or shamed because of me.
-I endure scorn and shame for your sake.
-I'm a stranger and alien to my brothers.
-Zeal for your house consumes me.
-Insults against you fall on me.
-I weep, fast and am scorned.
-I wear sackcloth and people make sport of me,
    I'm the song of drunkards.
-I pray to you, in your great loving favour
and mercy to turn to me and answer with sure
salvation out of the goodness of your love.
-Deliver me from those who hate me.
-Rescue me from sinking in the miry grave.
-I'm your servant in trouble so:
    -Don't hide your face.
    -Answer quickly.
-Rescue and redeem me from my enemies.
  -You know
-I'm scorned, disgraced and shamed, my
      enemies are before you.
-I'm left broken hearted and helpless by
      scorn.
-In vain I sought sympathy and comforters.
-They put gall in my food.
-They gave me vinegar to drink.
-In your wrath and anger may:
-Their table be a snare, retribution and
      trap.
    -Their eyes be blinded.
    -Their backs bent forever.
-Their place and tents be deserted.
-They be blotted out of the Book of Life and
      not listed with the faithful.
-I'm in pain and distress, protect me with
    your salvation.
-Charge them with multiple crimes, don't let
    them share your salvation.
-They persecute those you wound and talk about
    their pain.

I will
  -Praise God's name in song.
  -Glorify Him with thanksgiving.
-Which will please God more than animal
      sacrifices.

The poor will see and be glad.
You who seek God may your hearts live.
The Lord hears the needy and doesn't despise His
captive people.

Praise Him everything in heaven earth and seas
for God will
  -Save Zion.
  -Rebuild Judah's cities where
-People and their children will settle and
      take possession.
-Those who love His name will dwell.

PSALM 70

O God
-Quickly come to help and save me.
-May those who seek my life and desire my ruin
be put to shame, confusion and turned back
    in disgrace.
-May all who seek you and love your salvation:
-Rejoice and be glad in you.
-Always say, "Let God be exalted."

Come quickly, O Lord, don't delay, I'm poor and
needy. You're my help and deliverer.
PSALM 71

O sovereign Lord, my God,
-I've taken refuge in you, never let me be
    shamed.
-Listen, save, rescue and deliver me in your
    faithfulness.
-Be my rock of refuge and fortress to which I
    can always go.
-Deliver me from wicked, evil cruel men.
-From birth I've relied on you.
-You've always been my confidence and hope.
-I'll ever praise your splendour all day long.
-My life's a wonder to many but you're my
    strong refuge.
-Don't forsake me in old age for
-Enemies conspire to kill me and say
-"God's forsaken him so pursue and seize
     him, no one will rescue."
  -Come quickly to help.
-Cover my accusers with shame, scorn and
    disgrace.
-But I'll always have hope and praise you more
and more, all day telling of
    -Your faithfulness.
    -Your immeasurable salvation.
-Your mighty acts and marvellous deeds.
-You've taught me since my youth.
-Don't forsake me in old age until I declare
your power and might to the next generation.
-Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
  -You've done great things.
  -Who's like you?:
-You've made me see many bitter troubles but
      you'll:
-Restore my life again from earth's depths
      -Increase my honour.
      -Comfort me again.
  -I, who you've redeemed will:
-Praise your faithfulness with the harp.
-Praise you with the lyre, O Holy One of
    Israel.
-Sing praise and shout for joy.
-Tell of your faithful acts all day long for
my enemies have been put to shame and
    confusion.

PSALM 72

Endow the king with your justice and
faithfulness O God and he will:
-Judge your people and afflicted ones with
    faithfulness and justice (so)
-The land will prosper and experience
      faithfulness.
  -Defend the afflicted.
  -Save the needy's children.
  -Crush the oppressor.
-Endure, like sun and moon through all
    generations.
-Be like showers refreshing the earth.
  -Make faithfulness flourish and prosperity
abound as long as the moon exists.
-Rule all the earth and tribes and distant
kings will bring tribute and gifts.
-Have all kings bow and all nations serve him.
-Deliver the needy and afflicted who cry out
    with no one to help.
-Pity the weak and needy and rescue them from
oppression, violence and death for they're
    precious to Him.

May
-The king live long and receive gold from
    Sheba.
-People ever pray for and bless him all day
    long.

-The land flourish with grain and fruit.
  -The king's name endure forever.

All nations will be blessed through him and
they'll call him blessed.

PRAISED BE THE LORD GOD OF ISRAEL WHO ALONE DOES
MARVELLOUS DEEDS. PRAISE TO HIS GLORIOUS NAME
FOREVER. MAY THE WHOLE EARTH BE FILLED WITH HIS
GLORY. AMEN AND AMEN.

PSALM 73

God's good to Israel, to the pure in heart.
But I'd almost lost my foothold for I envied the
arrogant prosperity of the wicked, they're
-Free of struggles, strong and healthy.
  -Free of common man's burdens.
  -Therefore
    -They're proud and violent.
    -They have iniquitous callous hearts.
-There's no limit to their minds' evil
      conceits.
    -They scoff, speak maliciously, and
      arrogantly threaten oppression.
-Their mouths claim heaven but their tongues
      possess the earth. So
-Their people turn, listen to them and
        say,
-"How can God know, does He have
        knowledge?"
    -They're carefree with increasing wealth.

Surely in vain I've
  -Kept my heart pure.
  -Kept my hands innocent, because
-I'm punished every morning and plagued all
      day long.
  -If I'd spoken this aloud
    -I'd have betrayed your children.

WHEN I TRIED TO UNDERSTAND ALL THIS IT OPPRESSED
ME BUT WHEN I ENTERED GOD'S SANCTUARY I
UNDERSTOOD THEIR FINAL DESTINY:
-You put them on slippery ground.
-You cast them down to ruin.
  -You suddenly destroy them, completely
    sweeping them away by terrors.
-When you arise you despise them as fantasies.

With grieving heart and embittered spirit I was
senseless and ignorant, a brute beast before
you, yet:
  -I'M ALWAYS WITH YOU.
  -YOU HOLD MY RIGHT HAND.
-YOU GUIDE ME WITH YOUR COUNSEL.
-YOU'LL AFTERWARD TAKE ME INTO GLORY.
-WHOM HAVE I IN HEAVEN BUT YOU?
-I WANT NOTHING ON EARTH BUT YOU.
-MY FLESH AND HEART MAY FAIL BUT
-GOD'S THE STRENGTH OF MY HEART,
    -MY PORTION FOREVER.

-All far from you will perish.
-You'll destroy all who are unfaithful to you.

BUT FOR ME IT'S GOOD TO BE NEAR GOD. I'VE MADE
THE SOVEREIGN LORD MY REFUGE, I'LL TELL OF ALL
YOUR DEEDS.

PSALM 74

O God
-Why have you rejected us forever?
-Why does your anger smoulder against your
    pasture's sheep?

-Remember the people you purchased and
    redeemed of old.
-Remember Mt Zion where you dwelt.
-Walk toward the everlasting ruins, the
    enemy's destruction of the sanctuary.
-Your foes roared there where you met with
      us.
-They set up their standards there.
    -They axed the carved panelling.
-They burned it to the ground.
-They defiled the dwelling place of your
      name.
-They said, "We'll crush them completely."
-They burned every place where God was
      worshipped in the land.
-You give no miraculous signs, no prophets, no
indication how long this will be.
-Will the enemy mock you and revile you for
    ever?
-Take your right hand from your garment's
      folds and destroy them.

-You're my king from of old, you
    -Bring salvation on earth.
-Split the Red Sea and destroyed Pharaoh's
      pursuing army.
-Opened springs and streams in the desert.
    -Dried up ever flowing rivers.
-Establish day and night, sun and moon,
      summer and winter.
    -Set all earth's boundaries.

  -Remember
-How the enemy mocked you and foolish people
      reviled your name.
-Do not hand us over to wild beasts and
      forget your afflicted people forever.
-Your covenant, for violence fills the
      land's dark places.
-Don't let the oppressed retreat disgraced.
-May the poor and needy praise your name.
-Rise up and defend your cause.
-Remember fools mock you all day long.
-Don't ignore your enemies' clamour and
      continual uproar.

PSALM 75

O God,
-We thank you for being near.
-Men tell of your wonderful deeds.
  -You say
    -I choose the appointed time.
    -I judge uprightly.
-When the earth quakes I hold its pillars
      firm.
-To wicked and arrogant, "Boast no more
      against heaven."
      -Don't speak defiantly.
    -Man can't exalt a man.
  -You're the judge, you
    -Bring one down.
    -Exalt another.
-In your hand is a cup of foaming wine,
    -You pour it out.
-All the wicked of the earth drink it
        completely.
-I'll sing praise to Jacob's God forever.
-I'll cut off the wicked's power.
-I'll lift up the strength of the faithful.

PSALM 76

God, majestic and resplendent with light, is
known in Judah, His name's great in Israel. His
temple is in Jerusalem, His dwelling place

(is) in Zion, there
-He broke the arrows, shields and swords of
    war.
-Valiant warriors lie plundered and dead.
-At your rebuke horse and chariot lie still.
  -You're to be feared.
-No one can stand before you when you're
    angry.
From heaven you pronounced judgment to save the
afflicted of the land.
-The land feared and was quiet.
  -Your wrath brings you praise.
  -Those surviving it are restrained.
Make and fulfill vows to the Lord your God.
Let neighbouring lands bring gifts to the one to
be feared. He breaks rulers' spirits and is to
be feared by them.

PSALM 77

O God
-In distress I cried out to God for help.
-I stretched out untiring hands at night.
  -My soul refused comfort.
-Remembering you I groaned, mused and my
    spirit grew faint.
-Sleepless I was too troubled to speak.
-I remembered past years, my songs in the
    night.
-My heart mused, my spirit enquired
-Will you reject forever, never show favour
      again?
    -Has His unfailing love vanished?
-Has His promise failed for all time?
-Has He forgotten to be merciful?
-Has He in anger withheld compassion?
  -Then I thought
-I'll appeal to the years at the right hand

      of the Most High.
-I'll remember the Lord's deeds and past
      miracles.
-I'll meditate on all your mighty deeds.
-Your ways, O God are holy.
-Who is as great as you?
      -You perform miracles.
      -You display power among peoples.
-You redeemed your people with a mighty
        arm.
-The Red Sea saw you, writhed, convulsed
and opened as you led your way through
        the mighty waters, though your
footprints weren't seen as thunder and
lightning lit up the world and the earth
        quaked.
-YOU LED YOUR PEOPLE LIKE A FLOCK BY THE
      HAND OF MOSES AND AARON.

PSALM 78

My people hear and listen to hidden things from
of old, that we've heard from our fathers.
Tell the next generation of the Lord's
historical
  -Praiseworthy deeds.
  -Power and wonders.
-Decrees and law for Jacob and Israel which He
    commanded to teach their children
-So every generation would know them
-AND PUT THEIR TRUST IN GOD,
      -Not forget His deeds and
      -Keep His commands.
    -Unlike their fathers,
      -Stubborn and rebellious.
      -With disloyal hearts.
      -With unfaithful spirits.
      -Ephraim's men, armed but retreating,
        -Not keeping God's covenant.
-Refusing to live by God's law.
        -Forgetting His actions, wonders and
          miracles.
          -Dividing the Red Sea.
-Making water stand like a wall.
-Guiding by cloud in the day and fire
            by night.
          -Splitting desert rocks to give
            abundant water.
-But they continued to sin and rebel in
the desert against the Most High.
-Testing God by wilfully demanding food
        they craved.
-Saying, "He gave us water," but can He
        give food?
      -Making God very angry for
        -Not believing in Him
        -Or trusting His deliverance.
-So He rained down manna, heaven's grain,
angels' bread for them to eat.
-He also rained down meat, flying birds
like dust all round their tents.
-They ate 'til they had more than enough
for He gave them what they craved.
-But while the food was still in their
        mouths.
        -God's anger rose.
-He killed the sturdiest young men of
          Israel.
-In spite of all His wonders they kept
          sinning and didn't believe.
-SO HE ENDED THEIR DAYS IN FUTILITY AND
          TERROR.

-Whenever He slew them they'd eagerly turn to
Him and seek Him as their
    -Rock and
    -Redeemer

      -Flattering with mouth
      -Lying with tongues.
      -With disloyal hearts they were
        unfaithful to His covenant.

-But He mercifully forgave and didn't destroy
    them.
    -Repeatedly restraining His anger
-And not exercising His full wrath.
-Remembering they were but flesh, a passing
      breeze.

  -They repeatedly rebelled against, tested,
vexed and grieved Him in the desert.
-They forgot the miraculous power with which
He redeemed them from Egypt by:
-Turning their rivers to blood and making
      streams undrinkable.
    -Sending devouring swarms of flies.
    -Sending devastating frogs.
-Giving crops and produce to the locust.
    -Destroying vines with hail and
      sycamore-figs with sleet.
-Giving cattle to hail and livestock to
      lightning.
-Unleashing in hot anger, wrath, indignation
and hostility, a band of destroying angels
      and
      -Killing all Egypt's firstborn.
-Bringing out and leading His people like a
      flock through the desert.
      -Guiding safely and unafraid
-As the sea engulfed their enemies.
-Bringing them to the border hill country
        of His holy land.
      -Driving out nations before them.
-Allotting tribal lands as an inheritance.
      -Settling them in their homes.
-But they tested, rebelled and disobeyed the
      Most High's statutes.
    -Like forefathers, they were disloyal
      faithless and unreliable.
-They aroused His jealousy and angered Him
      with high places and idols.
-So God angrily rejected Israel completely.
-Abandoning His tabernacle at Shiloh (about
      20 miles north of Jerusalem).
-Sending the ark of His might into enemy
      captivity.
    -Consuming young men with fire.
-Leaving maidens with no wedding songs.
    -Killing priests.
-Then the Lord awoke as from sleep and
      -Beat enemies back shaming them
        everlastingly.
      -Rejecting tribe Ephraim and choosing
tribe Judah, Mt Zion which He loved. He:
-Built His sanctuary like the heights
          and earth He established forever.
-Took His servant David from shepherding
sheep and made him the shepherd of His
          people and inheritance. And David
          shepherded them with integrity of
          heart and skilful leadership.

PSALM 79

O God nations have:
  -Invaded your inheritance.
  -Defiled your Holy Temple.
-Reduced Jerusalem to rubble and poured out
    blood like water round it.
-Made the dead bodies of your saints and
servants food for birds and animals.
-Made us objects of reproach, scorn and
    derision.

O Lord,
  -Will you be angry forever?
-How long will your jealousy burn like fire?
-Pour wrath on nations that don't acknowledge
you or call on your name, for they devoured
    and destroyed our homeland.
-Don't hold our fathers' sins against us.
-Mercifully come quickly to meet us in our
    desperate need.
-God, our Saviour, deliver us and forgive our
sins for the glory (honour) of your name.
-Why should nations say, "Where is their God?"
-Let us see you let them know you avenge the
    outpoured blood of your servants.
-Hear prisoners' groans and preserve those
    condemned to die.
-Pay them back 7 times the reproach they
    hurled at you.
-THEN WE YOUR PEOPLE, THE SHEEP OF YOUR
PASTURE WILL PRAISE YOU FOREVER FROM
    GENERATION TO GENERATION.

PSALM 80

O Lord God Almighty, shepherd of Israel
enthroned between the cherubim (of the Ark of
the Covenant).
  -Hear us and:
    -Shine forth.
    -Awaken your might.
    -Come, restore and save us.
-How long will your anger smoulder against
    your people's prayers.
-You've fed them with tears and
-Made our enemies mock and fight over
      our lands.
-You brought (us) a vine out of Egypt.
    -Drove out nations.
-Planted it and cleared the ground.
-It took root and filled the land.
    -Its shade covered the mountains.
-It sent out boughs from the Euphrates to
      the Mediterranean.
-So why have you broken down (Israel) walls so
    that
-All who pass by steal its grapes.
-Forest boars and field creatures feed on
      it.
-Return to us, look down from heaven
-Watch over this vine you've planted.
-The son you've raised up for yourself.
    -It's cut and burned.
-At your rebuke the people perish.
-Rest your hand on the man at your right
hand, the son of man you've raised for
      yourself, then
      -We'll not turn from you.
-Revive us and we'll call on your name.
-Restore us, make your face shine on us
        that we might be saved.

PSALM 81

Sing for joy, shout aloud to God our strength.
-Start music with tambourine, harp and lyre.
-Sound the ram's horn at the new and full moon
day of our feast as decreed for Israel.
-It's an ordinance of her God, established
when He went out against Egypt.
    -He says:
      -I removed their shoulders' burdens.
-I freed their hands from the (carry)
        baskets.
-You called in your distress and I:
        -Answered out of a thundercloud.
        -Rescued you.
        -Tested you at Meribah's waters.
-If you'd listen I'll warn you:
-Have no foreign god among you.
        -Don't bow down to one.
-I'm the Lord your God who brought you out
        of Egypt.
-Open your mouth wide and I'll fill it.
-But you wouldn't listen and submit so I
gave them over to their own stubborn
        hearts' devices.
-If my people would listen and follow my
        ways I'd
        -Quickly subdue their enemies.
-Punish everlastingly those who hate the
          Lord, who'll cringe before Him.
-BUT YOU'D BE FED WITH FINEST MEAT AND
I'D SATISFY YOU WITH HONEY FROM THE
          ROCK.

PSALM 82

God presides and gives judgment in the great
assembly (on unjust rulers).
-How long will you defend the unjust and
    encourage the wicked?
  -(Instead)
-Defend the cause of the weak and
      fatherless.
-Maintain the rights of the poor and
      oppressed.
-Rescue the weak and needy from the wicked's
      hands.

-(These rulers) know and understand nothing.
    -Walk about in darkness.
-(Therefore) being the dispensers of justice
      the whole world order crumbles.
-Rulers do so as God's representatives but,
being corrupt, are brought low by the same
      judgment as other men.

RISE UP, O GOD, JUDGE THE EARTH (LET YOUR
PERFECT REIGN COME) FOR ALL NATIONS ARE YOUR
INHERITANCE.

PSALM 83

O God don't be quiet or still.
  -See your enemies are astir.
  -They cunningly conspire against your
    cherished people
-Saying, "Let's destroy them as a nation that
    Israel's name be completely forgotten."
-Allied against you, they plot singlemindedly,
    Edom, Ishmaelites, Moab, Hagrites, Gebal,
    Ammon, Amalek, Philistia, Tyre, Assyria
    (encircle us).
-Destroy them as you did Midian, Sisera, Jabin
who became like refuse on the ground, Oreb,
    Zeeb and Zalmunna, who said,
    "Let's possess God's pasturelands."
-Make them like chaff before the wind.
-Pursue them with your tempest as a fire
consumes the forest and terrify them with
      your storm.
-Make them ashamed and dismayed and perish
      in disgrace so that:
      -MEN WILL SEEK YOUR NAME.
-THEY'LL KNOW THAT YOU WHOSE NAME IS THE
LORD, ARE ALONE THE MOST HIGH OVER ALL
        THE EARTH.

PSALM 84

O Lord Almighty my King and my God
-My soul faints for the Lord's courts.
-My heart and flesh cry out for the living
    God.
-The sparrow finds a home near your altar.
-Those who dwell in your house have peace of
    heart ever praising you.
-There's peace of heart for those whose
    strength is you
-Who've set their hearts on pilgrimage.
-Who pass through well watered valleys.
    -Going from strength to strength,
-'til each appears before God in Zion.
-Hear my prayer, O Lord God Almighty and look
    favourably on your anointed one.
-Better one day in your courts than 1000
      elsewhere.
-I'd rather be a doorkeeper in my God's
house than dwell in the wicked's tents.
FOR THE LORD GOD IS A SUN AND SHIELD BESTOWING
FAVOUR AND HONOUR. HE WITHHOLDS NO GOOD THING
FROM THOSE WHOSE WALK IS BLAMELESS. O LORD
ALMIGHTY, THE MAN WHO TRUSTS IN YOU IS BLESSED
(HAS PEACE OF HEART).

PSALM 85

You favoured your land O Lord and restored
Israel's fortunes
  -Forgiving their iniquity.
  -Covering their sins.
-Setting aside all your wrath, turning from
    fierce anger.
Restore us again O God our Saviour.
  -Put away your displeasure.
-Will you be angry with us through all
    generations?
-Won't you revive us again that your people
    may rejoice in you?
-Show us your unfailing love and
  -Grant us your salvation.

I'll listen to what God the Lord will say.
-He promises peace to His people, His saints,
if they don't return to folly.
-His salvation is near those who fear (hold
in reverent awe) Him, so that:
-Glory may dwell in our land.
  -LOVE AND FAITHFULNESS MEET TOGETHER.
  -Righteousness (faithfulness) and peace kiss
    each other.
-Faithfulness springs forth from the earth and
    looks down from heaven.
-The Lord will give what's good. Our land will
    yield its harvest.
-Faithfulness goes before Him and prepares the
    way for His steps.

PSALM 86

O Lord
  -I'm poor and needy.
-Guard my life, I'm devoted to you.
-You're my God, save your servant who trusts
    in you.
-Have mercy, I cry all day long.
-Bring joy to your servant for I lift my soul
    up to you.
-For you're forgiving and good, abounding in
love to all who call on you.
-Hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy,
-In trouble I call to you for you'll answer
    me.
  -There's no God like you,
    -Your deeds are incomparable.
-All nations you've made will come
      -And worship you, O Lord
-And bring glory to your name.
-For you're great and do marvellous things.
    -You alone are God.

TEACH ME YOUR WAY O LORD
-AND I'LL WALK IN YOUR TRUTH.
  -GIVE ME AN UNDIVIDED HEART.
-THAT I MAY FEAR YOUR NAME.
  -I'll praise you wholeheartedly.
-I'll glorify your name forever, for:
    -Your love's great for me.
-You saved me from the grave.
-Arrogant ruthless men who disregard you,
    attack me.
  -But you're compassionate and gracious
    -Slow to anger and
    -Abounding in love and faithfulness.
-Turn to and have compassion on me, grant me
your strength to save your son.
-Give me a sign of your goodness,
-That enemies may see and be shamed.
-For you've helped and comforted me.

PSALM 87

(God) has set His foundation on the holy
mountain.
  -The Lord loves Zion.
-Glorious things are said of you O City of
      God.
-Egypt, Babylon, Philistia and Tyre will say
this one and that one were born in her.
-The Most High Himself will establish her.
-The Lord will write in the register of the
peoples, "This one was born in Zion."
-As they make music they'll sing,
"ALL MY FOUNTAINS ARE IN YOU."
PSALM 88

O Lord the God who saves me.
Day and night I cry out in prayer before you.
  -My soul's full of trouble.
-I'm without strength and near death.
  -I'm like the slain
    -Forgotten by you.
    -Cut off from your care.
-You've put me in the darkest depths of the
    lowest pit.
-Your wrath lies heavily on me and overwhelms
    me.
-You've removed my closest friends and made me
    repulsive to them.
-I'm confined, trapped and my eyes are dim
    with grief.
-I spread my hands to you (in prayer).
-Do you show your wonders to the dead?
    -Can they praise you?
-Are your love, faithfulness, wonders and
righteous deeds declared in the grave?
-I cry for help in the morning.
  -Why do you reject me?
-From youth I've been afflicted, suffered
    terrors and am in despair.
-Your wrath has swept over me,
    -Surrounding and completely engulfing me
      like a flood.
-You've removed my companions and loved ones.
The darkness is my closest friend.

PSALM 89

I'll sing of the Lord's great love forever,
-Making known your faithfulness, which you
established in heaven itself, through all
    generations.
  -Declaring your love stands forever.
-You said, "I've made a covenant with my
chosen one David to establish his line and
    throne forever."
  -Declaring that:
    -The heavens praise your wonders
-And faithfulness in the Holy One's
        assembly.
-Who among the heavenly beings in the
        skies can compare with you?
-You're greatly feared (held in reverent
awe) in the Holy One's council, more
awesome than all who surround you.
-Lord God Almighty, who's like you?
      -You're mighty, your faithfulness
        surrounds you.
-You rule the surging sea and still its
      waters.
-Your strong arm scatters your enemies.
-The heavens and earth are yours.
-You founded the world and all in it.
    -You created north and south.
-Mounts Hermon and Tabor (in Galilee) sing
      for joy at your name.
-Your arm's powerful, your hand's strong and
      exalted.
-Your throne's founded on justice and
      righteousness.
-Love and faithfulness go before you.
-There's blessing (peace of heart) for all
      who've learned to
      -Acclaim you and
-Walk in the light of your presence
They rejoice in your name all day and
        Exult in your righteousness,
        You're their glory and strength.
By your favour you exalt our strength.
Our shield belongs to the Lord, our
         King, Israel's Holy One.
-You said to your faithful people,
-I've bestowed strength on a warrior and
-Exalted and anointed a young man, David,
        my servant.
-My right hand will sustain, my arm will
        strengthen him.
-No enemy will make him pay tribute.
-No wicked man will oppress him.
      -I'll crush his foes.
-My faithful love will be with him.
-Through my name his strength will be
        exalted.
-I'll set his rule over land from the
        Mediterranean to the Euphrates River.
-He'll call out to me, "You're my Father,
        God, Rock, Saviour."
-I'll appoint him my firstborn, the most
        exalted of the earth's kings.
-I'll maintain my love and covenant for
        him forever.
-I'll establish his line and throne as
        long as heavens endure.
-If his sons forsake my law, statutes,
        decrees and commands,
-I'll punish their sins with the rod and
          flogging.
-But I'll not take my love from him
        -Nor betray my faithfulness
        -Nor violate my covenant
        -Nor alter what I've said.
-Once for all I've sworn by my holiness to
        David
-His line will continue forever, and
-His throne endure before me like the
          sun and
        -Established forever like the moon,
-The faithful witness in the sky.

BUT YOU'VE REJECTED AND SPURNED:
-Been very angry with your anointed.
-Renounced the covenant with your servant.
-Defiled his crown in the dust.
  -Broken through all his walls.
  -Reduced his strongholds to ruins.
-All passers by have plundered him.
-He's become a scorn to his neighbours.
-You've exalted his foes' right hands.
-You've made all his enemies rejoice.
    -Turned back his sword.
    -Not supported him in battle.
  -Ended his splendour.
-Cast his throne to the ground.
-Cut short the days of his youth.
-Covered him with a mantle of shame.

How long will you hide, forever?
-How long will your wrath burn like fire?
-Remember how fleeting my life is.
-Why have you created all men for futility?
  -No man can avoid death.
-Where is your former great love which in your
    faithfulness you swore to David?
-Remember how your servant's been mocked.
-How I bear in my heart the enemy nations'
taunts as they mocked every step of your
    anointed one.

PRAISE BE TO THE LORD FOREVER! AMEN AND AMEN.

PSALM 90

Lord, you've been our dwelling place through all
generations:
  -Before mountains were born or
  -You brought the earth forth.
-FROM EVERLASTING TO EVERLASTING YOU ARE GOD.
-You turn men back to dust.

-1000 years in your sight are like a day
      just gone by.
-Men, like grass spring up in the morning
      and wither by evening.
-We're consumed by your anger and
    -Terrified by your indignation.
-You set our iniquities and secret sins
before the light of your presence.
-Our days pass away under your wrath.
-We finish our years with a moan.
-If we live 70 or even 80 years, they're
    -Full of trouble and sorrow.
-They pass quickly and we fly away.
-Who knows the power of your anger.
-Your wrath is as great as the fear
      (reverent awe) due to you.

-TEACH US TO NUMBER OUR DAYS THAT WE MAY GAIN
    A HEART OF WISDOM.
-O Lord relent, have compassion on your
      servants.
-Satisfy us in the morning with your
      unfailing love.
-That we may sing for joy and be glad all
      our days.
-Make us glad for as many days as you've
      afflicted us.
-As many years as we've had trouble.
-Show your deeds to your servants.
    -Your splendour to their children.
MAY THE FAVOUR OF THE LORD OUR GOD REST ON US,
ESTABLISH THE WORK OF OUR HANDS, YES, ESTABLISH
THE WORK OF OUR HANDS!

PSALM 91

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High

-Will rest in the Almighty's shadow.
  -I'll say of the Lord:
    -He's my refuge and fortress,
-My God in whom I trust.
-He'll save you from the enemy's trap and
    -Deadly pestilence.
-He'll cover you with His feathers and
-You'll find refuge under His wings.
-His faithfulness will be your shield and
        rampart.
-You'll not fear the terror of night nor the
-Arrow that flies by day nor
-The pestilence that stalks in darkness
        nor
-The plague that destroys at midday.
-10,000 may fall at your right hand but
it will not come near you.
-You'll observe with your eyes and see the
      wicked's punishment.
-If you make the Most High your dwelling,
the Lord who is my refuge:
-No harm or disaster will befall you.
      -He will command His angels
-To guard you in your ways.
-They'll lift you up in their hands
-So you won't strike your foot.
-You'll trample the lion and serpent.

The Lord says
-Because he loves me and acknowledges my name,
    I'll rescue and protect him.
-He'll call on me, I'll answer and
    -Be with him in trouble.
    -Deliver and honour him.
    -Satisfy him with long life.
    -Show him my salvation.

PSALM 92

It's good to praise the Lord Most High.
-Making music to your name on lyre and harp.
-Proclaiming your love in the morning,
  -Your faithfulness at night.
-You make me glad by your deeds.
-I sing for joy at the works of your hands.
  -How great they are.
  -How profound your thoughts.
  -The senseless man doesn't know.
-The fool does not understand that
-Though the wicked spring up and evildoers
      flourish
    -They'll be destroyed forever.
-But you, O Lord are exalted forever.
-Your enemies, O Lord, will perish and
    evildoers scattered.
  -You've exalted my strength.
-Fine oils have been poured upon me.
  -I've seen my enemies' defeat.
-I've heard the rout of my wicked foes.
-The faithful will flourish like a palm tree
    -Planted in the Lord's house.
-THEY'LL BEAR FRUIT IN OLD AGE, STAY FRESH AND
GREEN, PROCLAIMING THE LORD IS UPRIGHT. HE'S
MY ROCK AND THERE'S NO WICKEDNESS IN HIM.

PSALM 93

The Lord reigns robed in majesty armed with
strength.
Your throne was established long ago.
You're from all eternity.
The seas have lifted up their pounding waves.
But mightier than the thunder of the great
waters
-The Lord on high is mighty.
YOUR STATUTES STAND FIRM.
HOLINESS ADORNS YOUR HOUSE
FOR ENDLESS DAYS O LORD.

PSALM 94

O Lord the God who avenges, shine forth.
-Rise up, God judge of the earth, pay the
    proud back.
-How long will the wicked be jubilant, they
    -Pour out arrogant words,
      -Evildoers full of boasting.
    -Crush your people.
    -Oppress your inheritance.
    -Slay the widow and alien.
    -Murder the fatherless.
    -Say the Lord doesn't see
      -Or pay heed.
-Take heed, senseless ones among the people:
-Fools, when will you become wise?
-He implanted the ear, so He hears.
-He formed the eye, so He sees.
-He who disciplines nations will punish.
    -He who teaches has knowledge.
-The Lord knows men's thoughts, that they're
    futile.
-Blessed is the man you discipline O Lord,
    you:
    -Teach him from your law.
-Grant him relief from trouble until
-A pit is dug for the wicked.
-The Lord won't reject His people or
    -Forsake His inheritance.
-Judgment will again be founded on
      faithfulness.
-The upright in heart will follow it.
-Who will rise up for me against the wicked
    and
    -Take a stand against evildoers?

-Unless the Lord had helped me
      -I'd soon have been dead.
-When I said, "My foot's slipping,"
-Your love O lord supported me.
-When anxiety was great within me
-Your consolation brought joy to my soul.
-Can a corrupt throne, that brings misery by
    its decrees
    -Be allied to you?
-They band together against the faithful and
    -Condemn innocent to death.
-But the Lord's become my fortress,
-The rock in whom I take refuge.
-He'll repay them for their sins and
      -Destroy them for their wickedness.

PSALM 95

Come, let us:
-Sing for joy to the Lord.
-Shout aloud to the Rock of our Salvation.
  -Come before Him with thanksgiving.
-Extol Him with music and song.
  -Bow down in worship.
-Kneel before the Lord our maker.

For the Lord:
  -Is the great God,
-The great King above all gods.
-In His hand are earth's depths and mountain
      peaks.
    -He made the sea
    -And the dry land.
  -Is our God and
-We are the people of His pasture,
    -The flock under His care.

To-day if you hear His voice,
  -Don't harden your hearts
-Like you did at Massah and Meribah during
      the exodus
-When your fathers tested and tried me,
-Though they'd seen what I did.
-I was angry for 40 years with that
      generation.
-I said, "They're a people whose hearts go
        astray
      -And haven't known my ways.
-So I said on oath in my anger
    -They'll never enter my rest."

PSALM 96

Sing a new song to the Lord all the earth
  -Praise His name.
-Proclaim His salvation day after day.
-Declare His glory and marvellous deeds among
    the nations.
-For great is the Lord and most worthy of
    praise.
-He's to be feared (given awesome respect)
    above all gods.
-The nations' gods are but idols but
  -The Lord made the heavens.
-Splendour and majesty are before Him.
-Strength and glory are in His sanctuary.
-Ascribe to the Lord, families of nations
-The glory due His name and strength.
-Bring an offering and come into His courts.
-Worship the Lord in the splendour of His
    holiness.
-Tremble before Him, all the earth.
  -Say among the nations,
    -The Lord reigns.
    -The world's firmly and immovably
      established.
-He'll judge the peoples with equity.
  -Let the
    -Heavens rejoice.
    -Earth be glad.
-Sea resound and all in it.
-The fields be jubilant and all in them.
-The forest trees sing for joy.
-Before the Lord for He comes
      -To judge the earth
      -In faithfulness
-And the peoples in His truth.

PSALM 97

The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad and
rejoice.
-Clouds and thick darkness surround Him.
-Faithfulness and justice are His throne's
    foundation.
-Fire goes before Him and conquers His foes.
    -Lightning lights up the world.
      -The earth sees and trembles.
-Mountains melt like wax before the Lord
        of all (the) earth.
  -The heavens proclaim His righteousness.
    -All peoples see His glory.
-All who worship images are shamed.
  -Zion hears and rejoices.
    -Judah's villages are glad
-Because of your judgments O Lord,
-For you're the Most High over all the
      earth,
      -Exalted far above all gods.
-Let those who love the Lord hate evil.
-He guards the lives of His faithful ones.
-And saves them from the wicked.
-Light is shed on the righteous
-And joy on the upright in heart.
REJOICE IN THE LORD YOU FAITHFUL ONES AND PRAISE
HIS HOLY NAME.

PSALM 98

Sing a new song to the Lord for
  -He's done marvellous things.
-His right hand and holy arm have
      -Worked salvation for Him and
      -He's made it known and
-All earth's ends have seen it.
      -Revealing His faithfulness to the
        nations.
    -He's remembered His love and
      -Faithfulness to Israel.
Shout for joy to and before, the Lord, the King,
all the earth.
-Burst into jubilant song with music.
-Make music to the Lord with
    -Harp
    -Singing
    -Trumpets
    -Ram's horn.
-Let the sea and all in it resound.
-Also the world and all in it.
    -Let rivers clap their hands.
-Let mountains sing together for joy.
-Let them sing together before the Lord.
-For He comes to judge the earth
    -In faithfulness
    -And the peoples with equity.

PSALM 99

The Lord reigns.
-He sits enthroned between the cherubim.
    -Let the nations tremble.
    -Let the earth shake.
-Great is the Lord in Zion.
-He's exalted over all the nations.
-Let them praise your great and awesome
        name.
    -He is holy.
-The king's mighty and loves justice.
      -You've established equity.
-In Israel you've done what's just and
        right.
    -Exalt the Lord our God.
      -Worship at His footstool.
-Moses, Aaron and Samuel called on His
        name.
-He answered and spoke to them from the
        pillar of cloud.
-They kept His statutes and decrees.
-You were a forgiving God to Israel.
        -Though you punished their misdeeds.
  -Exalt the Lord our God.
    -Worship at His holy mountain
-For the Lord our God is holy.

    -The sheep of His pasture.
-Enter His gates with thanksgiving and
    -His courts with praise.
    -Thank and praise His name.

        generations.

PSALM 101

O Lord I'll
-Sing praise of your love and justice.
  -Carefully lead a blameless life.
-When will you come to me?
-Walk in my house with blameless heart.
  -Look at no vile thing.
  -Hate faithless men's deeds.
-Be far from men of perverse heart.
-Have nothing to do with evil.
  -Silence anyone secretly slandering his
    neighbour.
-Not endure anyone with haughty eyes and a
    proud heart.
-Look on the Lord's faithful that they may
    dwell with me.
-Have him whose walk is blameless minister to
    me.
-Have no one who practises deceit dwell in my
    house.
-Have no liar stand in my presence.
-Put to silence the wicked of the land each
    morning.
-Cut every evildoer off from the Lord's city.

PSALM 102

Hear my prayer, my cry for help, O Lord.
-Don't hide your face when I'm in distress.
  -Listen and answer quickly for
    -My days vanish like smoke.
-My bones burn like glowing embers.
-My heart's blighted and withered like

      grass.
    -I forget to eat food.
-My loud groaning's reduced me to skin and
      bones.
-I'm like an owl among ruins.
-I lie awake like a bird alone on a roof.
-My enemies taunt and rail against me all
      day long and
-Use my name as a curse.
-I eat ashes for food and
      -Mingle my drink with tears.
-Because your great wrath's taken me up
        and thrown me aside.
-My days are like the evening shadow,
      -I wither like grass.

But you, O Lord, sit enthroned forever.
-Your renown endures through all generations.
-You'll arise and have compassion on Zion.
-The appointed time's come to show her
      favour.
-Her stones are dear to your servants.
-Her dust moves them to pity.
-The nations will fear the Lord's name.
-The earth's kings will revere your glory.
-For the Lord will rebuild Zion
      -And appear in His glory.
-He'll respond to the destitutes' prayer
        and
        -Not despise their plea.
-Write this for a future generation,
    -So they'll praise the Lord.
-The Lord looked down from His heavenly
      sanctuary,
      -Viewed the earth.
      -Heard the prisoners' groans.
      -Released those condemned to death.
-So the Lord's name will be declared in Zion
    -And His praise in Jerusalem.
-When people and kingdoms assemble to
      worship the Lord.
-During my life He broke my strength and
    -Cut my days short.
    -So I said
-Don't cut me off in the midst of my days.
      -Your years continue through all
        generations.
      -In the beginning
        -You laid earth's foundations.
-The heavens are your hand's work.
        -You remain but they'll
          -Perish.
          -Wear out like a garment.
          -Be changed by you.
          -Be discarded by you.
      -But you remain the same
        -Your years never end.
-Your servants' children will live in your
        presence.
        -Their descendants will be established
          before you.

PSALM 103

Praise the Lord O my soul.
-All my inmost being praise His holy name.
  -Don't forget all His benefits
   (Because) He
  -Forgives all your sins.
  -Heals all your diseases.
-Redeems your life from the pit.
-Crowns you with love and compassion.
-Satisfies your desires with good things.
-Renews your youth like the eagle's.
  -Works righteousness.
-Executes justice for all the oppressed.
-Made His ways known to Moses.
-Made His deeds known to Israel.
  -Is compassionate and gracious.
  -Slow to anger.
  -Abounding in love.
  -Won't always accuse.
  -Won't remain angry forever.
-Doesn't treat us as our sins deserve.
-Doesn't repay us according to our iniquities.
-For as high as the heavens are above earth
-So great is His love for those who fear
        Him.
-As far as the east is from west
-So He's removed our transgressions from
        us.
-As a father has compassion on his children
-So the Lord has compassion on those who
        fear Him.
-For He knows how we're formed.
      -And remembers we're dust.
-A man's days are like grass.
-He flourishes like a flower of the
          field.
-The wind blows and it's gone,
          remembered by no one.

But from everlasting to everlasting
-The Lord's name is with those who fear Him.
  -His faithfulness with their children's
    children
  -Who keep His covenant and
    -Obey His precepts.
-The Lord's established His throne in heaven.
    -His kingdom rules over all.

Praise the Lord,
-You His angels, mighty ones who do His
    bidding and
    -Obey His word.
  -All His heavenly hosts,
-His servants who do His will,
-All His works, everywhere in His dominion.

PRAISE THE LORD O MY SOUL.

PSALM 104

Praise the Lord O my soul,
O Lord my God you're very great,
-You're clothed with splendour and majesty.
-You wrap yourself in light as with a garment.
-You stretch out the heavens like a tent and
    -Make your abode there.
-You make the clouds your chariot and
-Ride on the wings of the wind.
-You make the winds your messengers,
    -Flames of fire your servants.
-You set the earth immovably on its
    foundations,
-Covered it with water above the mountains
      as a garment,
-Thundered to the waters to flee down to the
valleys and boundary you assigned for
      them,
-Never again to cover the earth.
-You made springs pour water into ravines
    between mountains,
    -Giving water to
-Quench the thirst of all the beasts of
        the field,
-Birds of the air which sing among the
        branches.
-You water the mountains from the heavens so
-The earth's satisfied by the fruit of your
      work.
-The grass grows for the cattle.
-Plants grow for man to cultivate and
      provide food from the earth,
      -Wine to gladden man's heart,
-Oil to make his face shine,
      -Bread to sustain him.
-The Lord's trees, cedars of Lebanon He
      planted, are well watered where,
-The birds make their nests and the
-Stork makes its home in the pine trees.
-You make the high mountains a home for the
    wild goats.
-And the crags a refuge for rock badgers.
-You have the moon mark off the seasons.
-You have the sun set, bringing night when
-Lions roar for prey and seek their food
        from God,
-And rise again when they steal away and
      return to their dens.
-Then man goes out to his work and labours
      until evening.
-How many are your works O Lord, wisely you
    made them all.
-The earth's full of your greatness.
-There's the vast, spacious sea teeming
        with creatures large and small,
-Where ships travel to and fro and
-The massive sea creature you formed to
          frolic there.
-These all look to you to feed them in due
      time
      -When you do, they're satisfied.
-When you don't they're terrified, die and
        return to dust.
-When you send your spirit they're created
      and
      -You renew the earth's face.

May the Lord's glory endure forever and may He
rejoice in His works,
-He looks at the earth and it trembles.
-He touches the mountains and they smoke.
I'LL SING TO THE LORD MY GOD ALL MY LIFE,
MAY MY MEDITATION BE PLEASING TO HIM
AS I REJOICE IN THE LORD.
But may sinners vanish from the earth.
PRAISE THE LORD, O MY SOUL
PRAISE THE LORD.

PSALM 105

Give thanks to the Lord and call on His name.
-Make known among the nation what He's done,
    all His wonderful acts.
  -Sing praise to Him.
  -Glory in His holy name.
-Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord
    rejoice.
-Look to the Lord and His strength.
  -Seek His face always.
-Remember His wonders, miracles and judgments.
-Israel, He's the Lord our God.
-His judgments are in all the earth.

He remembers His covenant forever.
-The word He commanded for 1000 generations.
    -Made with Abraham,
    -Sworn by oath to Isaac,
-Confirmed to Jacob as a decree,
-Made to Israel as an everlasting covenant,
"I'll give you the land of Canaan as your
       inheritance."
-When few in number and strangers,
-They wandered from nation to nation.
-He allowed none to oppress them, so
        -He rebuked kings,
          -"Don't touch my anointed ones,
          - Don't harm my prophets."
-He called down famine on the land.
      -He sent Joseph before Him.
        -Sold as a slave.
        -Feet bruised with shackles.
        -Neck put in irons.
-'til what he foretold came to pass.
-'til the word of the Lord proved him
            true.
        -The king released him and
-Made him master of his household,
          -Ruler of all his possessions,
          -Instructor of his princes and
-Teacher of wisdom to his elders.
-Then Israel entered Egypt and lived as an
      alien.
-The Lord made them very fruitful, too
        numerous for their foes,
-Whose hearts he turned to hate and
        conspire against His people.
-He sent Moses and Aaron to do miraculous
        signs amongst them.
-He sent darkness for rebelling against
          His words.
-He turned their waters into blood.
        -He sent frogs.
-He spoke and swarms of flies and gnats
          came.
-He turned their rain to hail and with
lightning He shattered vines, fig and
          other trees.
-He spoke and locusts came and ate every
          green thing.
-He struck down all their firstborn.
-He brought Israel out laden with silver
          and gold.
-Egypt was glad when they left.
-He spread out a cloud as a covering and
a fire to give light at night.
        -They asked and He
          -Brought quail and
-Satisfied them with the bread of

            heaven.
-Opened the rock and water gushed in
            the desert.
-He remembered His holy promise to
          servant Abraham.
-He brought out His people rejoicing
          with shouts of joy.
-He gave them nations' lands, making
them heirs of what others had toiled
          for.
-THAT THEY MIGHT KEEP HIS PRECEPTS AND
           OBSERVE HIS LAW.

PRAISE THE LORD.

PSALM 106

Praise the Lord.
  -Thank Him for He's good.
  -His love endures forever.
-Who can proclaim His mighty acts, fully
    declare His praise?
-Those who maintain justice and constantly
do right have peace of heart.
-Remember me O Lord when you favour your
    people.
-Come to my aid when you save them,
-That I might enjoy your chosen one's
      prosperity,
-Share in the joy of your nation and
-Join your inheritance in giving praise.
-We have sinned, done wrong and acted wickedly
    as our fathers did.
-In Egypt they gave no thought to your
      miracles,
-Didn't remember your many kindnesses and
      -Rebelled by the sea.
-Yet He saved them for His name's sake,

to make His mighty power known.
-He made the Red Sea dry up.
-He led them through the dry depths.
-He saved them and redeemed them from
          the foe.
-Waters covered their enemies, not one
            survived.
-Then they believed His promises and sang His
    praise.
    -But they soon forgot and
      -Didn't wait for His counsel.
-In the desert they gave in to their
        craving and
        -Put God to the test.
-He gave them what they asked for but
-Sent a wasting disease on them.
-In camp they grew envious of Moses and
        Aaron the Lord's consecrated.
-So the earth opened and swallowed
          Dathan and buried
          -The company of Abiram.
          -Fire consumed their wicked followers.
-At Mt Sinai, they made and worshipped
        a cast metal calf idol.
-They exchanged God's glory for the
image of a grass eating bull.
-They forgot the God who saved them and
        did great things in Egypt.
        -Miracles in Egypt.
-Awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
-So He said He'd destroy them -
-Had not Moses, His chosen one, stood in
        the breach
-Before Him to keep His wrath from
          destroying them.
-Then they despised the pleasant (promised)
      land and
      -Didn't believe His promise.
-Grumbling in their tents they disobeyed

        the Lord.
-So He swore He'd make them fall in the
      desert.
-And make their descendants fall and be
        scattered among the nations.
-They worshipped the Baal of Peor and
      -Ate sacrifices to lifeless gods.
-They provoked the Lord to anger by wicked
        deeds
-And a plague broke out among them.
-But Phinehas intervened and the plague
          stopped.
-And (like Abraham - Genesis 15:6)
THIS WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS
            RIGHTEOUSNESS for endless
            generations fo come.
-By Meribah's waters they angered the Lord,
      -Rebelling against His Spirit.
-Moses spoke rashly and trouble came to
        him as a result.
-They didn't obey the Lord and destroy the
      peoples but,
-Mingled with and adopted the customs of
        the nations.
-They worshipped and were snared by their
        idols.
-So they sacrificed the innocent blood
of their sons and daughters to demons,
          -The idols of Canaan,
          -And the land was desecrated.
        -They defiled and prostituted themselves
          by their deeds.
-So the Lord was angry with His people and
      -Abhorred His inheritance.
-He handed them to the nations and
        -Their foes ruled, oppressed and
          subjected them to their power.
    -He often delivered them but
-Bent on rebellion they wasted away in

        their sin.

-But He noted their distress, hearing their
      cry.
-For their sake He remembered His covenant
-AND OUT OF HIS GREAT LOVE RELENTED.
-He caused their captors to have pity.

SAVE US O LORD OUR GOD
  -GATHER US FROM THE NATIONS
-SO WE CAN THANK YOUR HOLY NAME
      -AND GLORY IN YOUR PRAISE.
PRAISE BE TO THE LORD, ISRAEL'S GOD FROM
EVERLASTING TO EVERLASTING. LET ALL THE PEOPLE
SAY "AMEN."

PRAISE THE LORD.

PSALM 107

Give thanks to the Lord for
  -He is good.
  -His love lasts forever.
Let the Lord's redeemed say this.
  -Redeemed from the enemy.
-Those He gathered in from many nations.
-Some wandered lost in desert wastelands,
-Finding no way to a city where they could
        settle,
      -Dying of hunger and thirst.
-They cried out to the Lord
      -And He saved them and
-Led them by a straight way
-To a city where they could settle.
-LET THEM THANK THE LORD FOR HIS UNFAILING
        LOVE,
        HIS WONDERFUL DEEDS FOR MEN.
        -Satisfying the thirsty.
        -Filling the hungry.

-Some sat in dark deepest gloom,
-Suffering as prisoners in iron chains for
        -Rebelling against God's words,
        -Despising the Most High's counsel.
      -So He
        -Subjected them to bitter labour.
-They stumbled and no one helped.
-Then they cried to the Lord.
      -And He saved them.
-Bringing them out of dark deepest gloom
        -And breaking their chains.
-LET THEM THANK THE LORD FOR HIS UNFAILING
        LOVE
        HIS WONDERFUL DEEDS FOR MEN.
        -He breaks down bronze gates
        -And cuts through iron bars.
-Some became fools through their rebellious
      ways.
        -Suffering affliction for iniquities.
        -Loathing food they neared death.
-Then they cried to the Lord
        -And He saved them
-By sending forth His word and healing
          them.
-He rescued them from the grave.

-Let them GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD FOR HIS
        UNFAILING LOVE.
        HIS WONDERFUL DEEDS FOR MEN.
-Let them sacrifice thank offerings and
-Tell of His works with songs of joy.

-Some went to sea in ships as merchants on
      mighty waters,
-Seeing the Lord's wonderful works in the
        deep.
-He spoke and a tempest lifted waves up to
      heaven and down to depths.
      -Their courage melted.
-Reeling and staggering like drunken men.
-They were at their wits' end.
-Then they cried to the Lord
      -And He saved them.
-He stilled the storm and hushed the
        waves.
-They were glad for the calm.
-HE GUIDED THEM TO THEIR DESIRED HAVEN.
LET THEM GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD FOR HIS
      UNFAILING LOVE.
      HIS WONDERFUL DEEDS FOR MEN.
-Let them exalt Him in the people's
        assembly.
-Let them praise Him in the elders'
        council.

-He turned rivers and flowing springs into a
    desert's thirsty ground,
-Fruitful land into a salt waste
    -Because of the inhabitants' wickedness.
-He turned desert into pools of water,
    -Parched ground into flowing springs.
-He brought the hungry to live.
-He founded a city to settle in.
-They sowed fields and planted vineyards
      -Yielding a fruitful harvest.
    -He blessed them.
      -Their numbers greatly increased.
      -He didn't let herds diminish.
-Then oppression, calamity and sorrow humbled
    them so numbers decreased.
-He who pours contempt on nobles made them
      -Wander in a trackless waste.
-But He lifted the afflicted needy
-And increased their families like flocks.

THE UPRIGHT SEE AND REJOICE.
BUT ALL THE WICKED SHUT THEIR MOUTHS.
WHOEVER IS WISE, LET HIM HEED THESE THINGS
AND CONSIDER THE GREAT LOVE OF THE LORD.

PSALM 108

O, God my heart's steadfast.
  -I'll awaken the dawn singing
-And making music with harp and lyre with
      all my soul.
-I'll praise you among nations and
    -Sing of you among peoples.
-Your love's great, higher than the heavens.
    -Your faithfulness reaches the skies.
-Be exalted, O God above the heavens.
-Let your glory cover the earth.
-Save, and help with your right hand
-That your loved ones may be delivered.
-God has spoken from His sanctuary.
-In triumph I'll parcel Shechem out
-And measure off the Valley of Succoth.
    -Gilead and Manasseh are mine.
    -Ephraim's my helmet.
    -Judah's my sceptre.
    -(Enemy) Moab's my wash basin.
-I toss my sandal on (enemy) Edom.
-I shout in triumph over (enemy) Philistia.

-Who'll bring me to the fortified city?
    -Who'll lead me to Edom?
  -It's you O God, who've rejected us
-And no longer go out with our armies.

AID US AGAINST THE ENEMY
 FOR MAN'S HELP IS WORTHLESS.
WITH GOD WE'LL GAIN VICTORY.
 HE'LL TRAMPLE DOWN OUR ENEMIES.

PSALM 109

O God, whom I praise, don't remain silent.
-Wicked, deceitful men have lied against me.
-They attack without cause surrounding me
      with words of hatred.
-They return my friendship with accusations
      and hatred.
-But I'm a man of prayer.
-They repay me evil for good.

Appoint the evil one to oppose him.
-An accuser at his right hand.
-Let him be tried and found guilty.
  -Let his prayers condemn him.
  -May his days be few.
-May another take his leadership place.
  -May his children be fatherless.
    -Wandering beggars.
    -Driven from their ruined homes.
    -Getting pity from no one.
-May his wife be a widow.
-May a creditor, a stranger, seize all he has,
    the fruits of his labour.
-May no one show him kindness.
-May his descendants be cut off.
-With names blotted from the next
      generation.
-May his father's iniquity be remembered
    before the Lord.
-His mother's sin never blotted out.
-That the Lord may cut off memory of them on
      earth.

He never thought of doing a kindness.
-But hounded the poor, needy and brokenhearted
    to death.
-He loved to pronounce a curse,
    -May it come on him.
-He found no pleasure in blessing.
-May it be far from him.
  -He lived by cursing.
-May it enwrap him like a cloak.
-May it encircle him like a belt forever.
-May this be the Lord's payment to my accusers
    who speak evil of me.

But sovereign Lord, out of your love's goodness,
deliver me.
-Deal well with me for your name's sake.
  -For I'm poor and needy.
    -My heart's wounded within me.
-I fade like an evening shadow.
-I'm shaken off like a locust.
    -My body's thin and gaunt.
-My knees give way from fasting.
-I'm an object of scorn to my accusers.

Help me O Lord, my God.
  -By your love save me.
-Let them know you have done it.
-They may curse but you will bless.
  -You'll shame the attackers.
  -BUT YOUR SERVANT WILL REJOICE.
  -You'll disgrace my accusers.

I'LL GREATLY EXTOL THE LORD.
I'LL PRAISE HIM IN THE GREAT THRONG.
FOR HE STANDS BY THE RIGHT HAND OF THE NEEDY
ONE, TO SAVE HIS LIFE FROM THOSE WHO CONDEMN
HIM.

PSALM 110

The Lord said to my Lord,
  -Sit at my right hand
-'til I make your enemies your footstool.
-I'll extend your mighty sceptre from Zion.
-You'll rule in the midst of your enemies.
-Your troops will be willing on your day of
      battle.
-As each day dawns you'll be arrayed in holy
      majesty.
-Young men will come to you like dew.

The Lord's sworn and His mind's changeless.
-You're a priest forever like Melchizedek.
-The Lord's at your right hand.
-He'll crush kings of the day of His wrath.
    -He'll judge nations,
      -Piling up the dead,
      -Crushing the earth's rulers.
-He'll drink from a brook beside the way.
-Therefore He'll lift up His head.

PSALM 111

Praise the Lord.
-I'll extol Him with all my heart
-In the council of the upright and assembly.

The Lord's works are great, faithful and just.
-Pondered by all who delight in them.
-His deeds are glorious and majestic.
    -His faithfulness endures forever.
-He causes His wonders to be remembered.
    -He's gracious and compassionate.
-He provides food for those fearing Him
      (giving awesome respect).
    -He remembers His covenant forever.
-He's shown His people the power of His
      works.
-He gives them other nations' lands.
    -His precepts are trustworthy,
      -Steadfast forever and ever,
      -Done in faithfulness and uprightness.
-He provided redemption for His people.
    -He ordained His covenant forever.
-HOLY AND AWESOME IS HIS NAME.

THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM.
ALL WHO FOLLOW HIS PRECEPTS HAVE GOOD
UNDERSTANDING.
TO HIM BELONGS ETERNAL PRAISE.

PSALM 112

Praise the Lord.
Blessed is the man who
-Has reverent awe for the Lord.
-Finds great delight in His commands.
-His children will be mighty in the land.
-The generation of the upright will be
      blessed.
    -He'll have wealth and riches.
    -His faithfulness endures forever.
-Even in darkness light dawns for the
      upright,
      -Gracious, compassionate and faithful man.
-Good comes to the generous who lends
      freely,
      -Conducting his affairs with justice.
    -He'll never be shaken.
    -The faithful man's remembered forever.
    -He doesn't fear bad news.
-His heart's steadfast and secure, trusting
      in the Lord.
    -He will be fearless
      -Finally triumphing over his foes.
-He scatters gifts to the poor.
      -His faithfulness endures forever.
-He will be lifted high in honour.

The wicked man will see and be vexed.
-Gnashing his teeth and wasting away.
-His longings will come to nothing.

PSALM 113

Praise the Lord.
Servants of the Lord praise His name now and
forever.
-The name of the Lord is to be praised
    worldwide.
-He is exalted over all nations.
    -His glory above the heavens.
-The Lord our God sits enthroned on high.
-He stoops down to look on heavens and
      earth.
-He raises the poor from the dust and
-Lifts the needy from the ash heap
      -Seating them with princes.
-He settles the barren woman in her home
-As a happy mother of children.
PRAISE THE LORD.

PSALM 114

When Israel came out of Egypt
-From people of a foreign language,
    -Judah became God's sanctuary,
    -Israel His dominion.
  -The Red Sea fled,
  -The Jordan River turned back.
  -Mountains skipped like rams,
    -The hills like lambs.
-Tremble, O earth, at the Lord's presence,
-Who turned the rock into a pool
-Hard rock into springs of water.

PSALM 115

O Lord not to us but to your name be the glory
-Because of your love and faithfulness.
  -Nations say, "Where's their God?"
    -Our God's in heaven.
      -He does whatever pleases Him.
-But their idols, made by men, are silver and
    gold with
      -Mouths that can't speak.
      -Eyes that can't see.
      -Ears that can't hear.
      -Noses that can't smell.
      -Hands that can't feel.
      -Feet that can't walk.
-Those who make and trust them will be like
      them.

-Israel and you who fear Him, trust in the
    Lord,
    -Your help and shield.
-The Lord remembers and will bless those who
    -Hold Him in reverent awe,
      -Small and great alike.

-May the Lord make you and your children
    increase.
-May you be blessed by the Lord,
    -Maker of heaven and earth.

  -The Lord owns highest heavens
-But He's given the earth to man.
-The dead can't praise the Lord.
IT'S WE WHO EXTOL THE LORD, NOW AND FOREVER.
PRAISE THE LORD.

PSALM 116

I love the Lord because He heard my cry for

mercy.
-So I'll call on Him as long as I live.
-At death's door, in anguish, trouble and
    sorrow
-I called on the Lord's name to save me.
-The Lord's gracious and righteous and full of
    compassion.
  -He protects the simple hearted.
-When in great need He saved me.

BE AT REST ONCE MORE MY SOUL FOR THE LORD'S BEEN
GOOD TO YOU.

-O Lord, you delivered my soul from death,
    -My eyes from tears,
    -My feet from stumbling,
-That I may walk before the Lord
-In the land of the living.
  -Because I believed I said, "I'm greatly
    afflicted,"
-Dismayed, I said "All men are liars."

-How can I repay the Lord for all His goodness
    to me?
-I'll lift up the cup of salvation
-And call on the Lord's name.
-I'll fulfill my vows to the Lord in the
      presence of His people.

-The death of His saints is precious in the
    Lord's sight.
    -Lord I'm truly your servant.
-You've freed me from my chains.

-I'll sacrifice a thank offering to you and
    call on your name.
-I'll fulfill my vows to the Lord
-In the presence of all His people.
-In the courts of the Lord's house in your
        midst O Jerusalem.

PRAISE THE LORD!

PSALM 117

Praise and extol the Lord all nations and all
peoples. For His love's great toward us.
  -His faithfulness endures forever.
PRAISE THE LORD.

PSALM 118

Thank the Lord, He is good.
-Let Israel and all who fear the Lord say,
    -"His love endures forever."
-In anguish I cried to the Lord.
-He answered by setting me free.
    -The Lord's with me.
      -I won't fear.
      -He's my helper.
      -Man can't harm me.
      -I'll triumph over my enemies
-It's better to take refuge in the Lord
      -Than trust man or princes.
-All the nations surrounded me on every side
      like bees.
-But in the name of the Lord I cut them
        off.
-They died out as quickly as burning
          thorns.
-Pushed back and about to fall
      -The Lord helped me.
-He's my strength, song and salvation.
-Shouts of joy and victory resound in the
      faithful's tents.
      -The Lord's done mighty things.
-I'll live and proclaim what the Lord's
      done.
-He's chastened me severely but not let me
        die.
    -Open the gates of faithfulness,
-I'll enter and thank the Lord.
    -This is the Lord's gate
-Through which the faithful may enter.
    -I'll give you thanks for
      -You've answered me and
      -Become my salvation.
    -The stone the builders rejected
      -Has become the capstone
        -The Lord's done this and
        -It's marvellous in our eyes.
-THIS IS THE DAY THE LORD'S MADE
-LET'S REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT.
    -O Lord save us and
      -Grant us success.
-Blessed is He who comes in the Lord's name.
-From the Lord's house we bless you.
    -The Lord is God.
-He's made His light shine on us.
-Boughs in hand, join the festal
          procession
          -To the altar's horns.
    -You're my God.
      -I'll give you thanks.
      -I'll exalt you.
    -Thank the Lord for
      -He is good.
        -His love endures forever.

PSALM 119

You've given precepts to be fully obeyed.
Blessed are they whose ways are blameless.
-Who walk according to the Lord's law and in
    His ways,
    -Keeping His statutes.
    -Seeking Him wholeheartedly.
    -Doing no wrong.

O that I were steadfast in obeying your decrees.
  -Then I'd not be shamed
-When I consider all your commands.
-I'll praise you with upright heart
-As I learn your faithful laws.
  -I'll obey your decrees.
    -Don't utterly forsake me.

How can a young man keep his way pure?
-By living according to your word.

I'll seek you with all my heart.
-Don't let me stray from your commands.
-I've hidden your word in my heart
-So I won't sin against you.
  -Praise to you O Lord.
    -Teach me your decrees.
  -My lips recount
    -All the laws you've spoken.
-I rejoice in following your statutes
-As one rejoices in great riches.
  -I meditate on your precepts,
    -Consider your ways,
    -Delight in your decrees,
    -And won't neglect your word.

Do good to your servant and I'll live
  -And obey your word.
-Open my eyes and I'll see
    -Wonderful things in your law.
  -I'm a stranger on earth.
-Don't hide your commands from me.
  -My soul's consumed with longing
    -For your laws always.
-You rebuke the arrogant who are cursed,
    -Straying from your commands.
-Remove scorn and contempt from me
    -For I keep your statutes.
  -Though rulers slander me
-Your servant will meditate on your statutes
      and decrees.
      -They're my delight and
        -My counsellors.

I'm laid low in the dust.
-Preserve my life according to your word.
  -I recounted my ways
    -And you answered me.
      -Teach me your decrees.
        -Let me understand your precepts.
-Then I'll meditate on your wonders.
  -My soul's weary with sorrow.
-Strengthen me according to your word.
    -Keep me from deceitful ways.
-Be gracious to me through your law.
-I've chosen the way of truth.
-And set my heart on your laws.
-I hold fast to your statutes.
    -Don't let me be shamed.
-I've run in the paths of your commands
-For you've set my heart free.

Teach me, O Lord, to follow your decrees.
-Then I'll keep them to the end.
-Give me understanding and I'll keep your law
-And obey it with all my heart.
-Direct me according to your commands.
    -In them I find delight.
-Turn my heart to your statutes,
    -Not to selfish gain.
-Turn my eyes from worthless things.
-Preserve my life according to your word.
-Fulfill your promise to your servant
    -So you may be feared.
  -Remove the disgrace I fear
    -For your laws are good.
  -I long for your precepts.
-Preserve my life in your faithfulness.

May your unfailing love come to me O Lord
-Your salvation according to your promise.
    -Then I'll answer my adversary
      -For I trust your word.
-Don't snatch your word from my mouth
-For I put my hope in your laws.
  -I always obey your laws.
    -I walk in freedom
      -For I've sought your precepts.
-I'll speak of your statutes before kings
    -And not be shamed.
  -I delight in your commands
    -For I love them.
-I lift up my hands to your commands
    -Which I love
    -And meditate on your decrees

Remember your word to your servant.
  -You've given me hope.
  -I'm comforted in suffering
-Because your promise preserves my life.
  -The arrogant unrestrainedly mock
-But I don't turn from your law.
-I remember and find comfort in your ancient
    laws.
-I'm indignant because the wicked have
    forsaken your law.
-Your decrees are my theme song wherever I
    lodge.
-At night I remember your name
    -And I'll keep your law.
    -This has been my practice.
      -I obey your precepts.

You're my portion, O Lord.
-I've promised to obey your words.
-I've sought your face with all my heart.
-Be gracious to me according to your
      promise.
  -I've considered my ways
-And turned my steps to your statutes.
-I'll hasten to obey your commands.
-Though the wicked bind me with ropes
    -I'll not forget your law
-At midnight I rise and thank you
    -For your faithful laws.
-I'm a friend to all who fear you
    -And follow your precepts.
-THE EARTH'S FILLED WITH YOUR LOVE, O LORD.
    -TEACH ME YOUR DECREES.

Do good to your servant.
-According to your word O Lord
-Teach me knowledge and good judgment
    -For I believe your commands.
  -I was afflicted and straying
-But now I obey your word.
-You're good and so is what you do.
    -Teach me your decrees.
-Though I am smeared with lies by the arrogant
-I keep your precepts with all my heart.
    -They've callous unfeeling hearts
-But I delight in your law.
    -Affliction was good.
-It helped me learn your decrees.
-The law from your mouth's more precious to me
-Than thousands of pieces of silver and
      gold.

Your hands formed me.
-Give me understanding to learn your commands.

  -May those who fear you
    -Seeing me, rejoice, because
-I've put my hope in your word.
-I know your laws are faithful
-And in faithfulness you've afflicted me.
-May your unfailing love be my comfort
    -As promised to your servant.
-Be compassionate to me that I may live
    -For your law's my delight.
-Shame the arrogant for wronging me without
    cause
-But I'll meditate on your precepts.
-May those who understand your statutes and
    fear you
    -Turn to me.
-May my heart be blameless toward your decrees
-That I may not be shamed.

My soul faints with longing for your salvation
-But my hope's in your word.
-My eyes fail looking for your promise.
    -When will you comfort me?
  -I'm shrivelled and afflicted.
-But I don't forget your decrees.
-How long before you punish my persecutors?
-The arrogant dig pitfalls for me contrary to
    your law.
  -All your commands are trustworthy.
-Help me, I'm persecuted without cause.
-They almost wiped me from the earth
-But I've not forsaken your precepts.
-Preserve my life according to your love
    -And I'll obey your statutes.

Your word, O Lord, is eternal.
  -Standing firm in the heavens.
  -Your faithfulness continues through all
    generations.
-You established the earth and it endures.
-Your laws endure to this day.
    -All things serve you.
-If I hadn't delighted in your law
-I'd have perished in my affliction.
  -I'll never forget your precepts.
-You've preserved my life by them.
  -Save me I'm yours.
    -I've sought out your precepts.
  -Wicked wait to destroy me.
    -But I'll ponder your statutes.
  -I see perfection limited
    -But your commands are boundless.

I love your law
-And meditate on it all day.
-Your commands, ever with me, make me wiser
    than my enemies.
-I've more insight than all my teachers
-Because I meditate on your statutes.
-I've more understanding than the elders
    -For I obey your precepts.
-I've kept from all evil paths
-That I might obey your word.
  -I've not disobeyed your laws
    -For you've taught me.
-Your words are sweeter than honey to my
    mouth.
    -Your precepts give understanding.
-Therefore I hate every wrong path.

Your word is a lamp to my feet
-And a light to my path.
-I've taken and confirmed an oath
-That I'll follow your faithful paths.
    -I've suffered much.
-Preserve my life according to my word.
-Accept my willing praise and teach me your
      laws.
-I constantly take my life in my hands.
-But I'll not forget your law.
  -Wicked try to snare me
-But I've not strayed from your precepts.
-Your statutes are the joy of my heart, my
      heritage forever.
-My heart's set on keeping your decrees to
      the very end.

I hate double minded men
  -But I love your law.
  -You're my refuge and shield.
    -My hope's in your word.
  -Get away evildoers
-So I may keep my God's commands.
-Sustain me by your promise and I'll live.
-Don't let my hopes be dashed.
-Uphold me and I'll be delivered.
    -I'll always respect your decrees.
-You reject all who stray from your decrees.
    -Their deceitfulness is vain.
-You discard earth's wicked like dross.
    -Therefore I love your statutes.
-I tremble in respectful awe of you.
-I'm in awe of your laws.

I've done what's righteous and just.
-Don't leave me to my oppressors.
  -Ensure your servant's well being.
-Don't let the arrogant oppress me.
-My eyes fail looking for your salvation and
    righteous promise.
-Deal with me according to your love, teach me
    your decrees.
  -I'm your servant, give discernment
    -To understand your statutes.
-Act, O Lord, your law's being broken.
-I love your commands more than gold
-And consider all your precepts right
-So I hate every wrong path.
Your statutes are wonderful,
Therefore I obey them.
-Your words unfolded give light and
    understanding to the simple.
-I pant longing for your commands.
-Turn and have mercy on me
-As you always do to those who love your
      name.
-Direct my footsteps by your word.
-Let no sin rule over me.
  -Redeem me from men's oppression
-So I may obey your precepts.
-Make your face shine on me
    -And teach me your decrees.
-I weep, for your law's not obeyed.

You're faithful O Lord,
Your laws are right.
-Statutes you've laid down are faithful and
    trustworthy.
  -Zeal wears me out
-For my enemies ignore your words.
-I love your thoroughly tested promises.
-Lowly and despised, I don't forget your
    precepts.
  -Your faithfulness is everlasting
    -And your law true.
  -I'm troubled and distressed
-But your commands are my delight.
  -Your statutes are forever right.
-Give me understanding that I may live.

With all my heart I call O lord.
-Answer and I'll obey your decrees.
  -I call out, save me
    -And I'll keep your statutes.
-Before dawn I cry for help.
-I've put my hope in your word.
  -I stay awake at night
    -To meditate on your promises.
-By your love hear my voice.
-Preserve my life according to your laws.
-Devisers of wicked schemes are near but
    they're
    -Far from your law
    -But you're near
-And all your commands are true.
-Long ago I learned from your statutes
-That you established them to last
        forever.

Look on my suffering and deliver me
-For I've not forgotten your law.
  -Defend, redeem and preserve me
    -By your promise.
  -Salvation's far from the wicked
-For they don't seek out your decrees.
  -Your compassion's great O Lord.
-Preserve me according to your laws.
  -Many foes persecute me
-But I've not turned from your statutes.
  -I loathe the faithless
-For they don't obey your word.
-See how I love your precepts.
-Preserve my life according to your love.
  -All your words are true
    -Your righteous laws eternal.

Rulers persecute me without cause
-But my heart trembles at your word.
  -I rejoice in your promise
    -Like one finding great spoil.
  -I hate falsehood
    -But I love your law.
-Seven times a day I praise you
    -For your faithful laws.
-Those who love your law have great peace.
    -Nothing can make them stumble.
-I wait for your salvation and follow your
    commands.
-I obey and love your statutes and precepts
-For all my ways are known to you.

May my cry and supplication come before you O
Lord.
-Give me understanding according to your word.
  -Deliver me by your promise.
  -May I overflow with praise
-For you teach me your decrees.
-May I sing of your word
-For all your commands are righteous.
  -Be ready to help me
    -For I've chosen your precepts.
  -I long for your salvation
    -And your law's my delight.
-Let me live to praise you.
    -May your laws sustain me.
-I've strayed like a lost sheep.
    -Seek your servant
-For I've not forgotten your commands.

PSALM 120

I call on the Lord in distress
  -And He answers me.
-Save me from lying deceitful tongues.
-The Lord will punish them with sharp arrows
      and burning coals.
-Woe to me that I'm far from home
-Living too long among those who hate peace.
    -I'm a man of peace
-But when I speak, they're for war.

PSALM 121

I lift up my eyes to the hills.
-Where does my help come from?
-From the Lord, maker of heaven and earth.
-He won't let your foot slip.
      -He watches over you unceasingly.
-He is your shade, your protection, day
          and night.
-He'll keep you from all harm
        -Watching over your life,
          -Its comings and goings
        -BOTH NOW AND FOR EVERMORE.

PSALM 122

I rejoiced with those who said,
-"Let's go to the Lord's house."
-Our feet stand in your gates, O Jerusalem
-Where the Lord's tribes go up
      -According to His statute.
-Where the thrones of judgment stand.
-Pray for Jerusalem's peace and security.
-May those who love you be secure.
-For the sake of brothers and friends
-I say, "Peace be within you."
-For the sake of the Lord's house
    -I'll seek your prosperity.

PSALM 123

I lift up my eyes to you,
  -Whose throne's in heaven.
-As slaves look to their master's hand
-So we look to the Lord our God
        -'til He shows us mercy.
        -For we've endured
          -Much contempt from the arrogant,
          -Much ridicule from the proud.

PSALM 124

If the Lord hadn't been on our side
  -When men attacked anger flaring,
    -They'd have swallowed us alive,
      -Engulfed and swept us away.
  -Praise the Lord
-Who's not let us be torn by their teeth.
-We've escaped like a bird out of a
        fowler's snare.
-Our help's in the name of the Lord,
    -Maker of heaven and earth.

PSALM 125

Those who trust in the Lord
  -Are like Mt Zion,
    -Unshakable, enduring forever.
  -As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
-So the Lord surrounds His people
      -Now and evermore.
  -The wicked won't rule
-The land allotted to the faithful
      -Otherwise they might do evil.
-Do good, O Lord, to the good and upright in
    heart.
-But those turning to crooked ways
-The Lord will banish with the evildoers.
PEACE BE ON ISRAEL.

PSALM 126

When the Lord brought back the captives to Zion
-It was like a dream come true.
-We laughed and sang with joy.
  -The nations heard,
-"The Lord's done great things for them."

-The Lord's done great things for us.
    -We're filled with joy.
  -Restore our fortunes O Lord
    -Like streams in the desert.
      -Those sowing with tears
        -Will reap with joyful song.

PSALM 127

Unless the Lord builds the house
  -Its builders labour in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city
-Its watchmen stand guard in vain.
In vain you rise early and work late toiling for
food to eat.
-For He provides for those He loves while they
    sleep.
Sons are a heritage, a reward from the Lord.
  -They're like arrows in a warrior's hands.
-Blessed is the man whose quiver's full of
    them.
-He won't be shamed when contending with
    enemies in the gate.

PSALM 128

All who fear the Lord
  -And walk in His ways
    -Have peace of heart.
-You'll eat the fruit of your labour,
    -Have blessing and prosperity,
-A wife like a fruitful vine,
      -Sons around your table.
  -THUS IS THE MAN BLESSED
    -WHO FEARS THE LORD.
-May the Lord bless you from Zion
-All the days of your life.
  -May you see Jerusalem's prosperity
-And live to see your grandchildren.
PEACE BE ON ISRAEL.

PSALM 129

They greatly oppressed me from my youth
-But have not gained the victory.
-Ploughmen ploughed my back with long
      furrows.
      -But the Lord's faithful.
-He cut me free from the wicked's cords.
-May all who hate Zion be shamed.
-Like grass on the roof that withers before
      it can grow.
-May no one say, "The Lord's blessing be on
      you."

PSALM 130

Out of the depths I cry to you O Lord.
  -Hear my cry for mercy.
-IF YOU KEPT A RECORD OF SINS
    -WHO COULD STAND
    -BUT WITH YOU THERE'S FORGIVENESS.
-Therefore you're to be held in reverent
        awe.
-My soul waits for the Lord
-More than watchmen wait for the morning.
-I put my hope in His word.
-Israel, put your hope in the Lord.
    -With Him is unfailing love
      -And full redemption.
-HE WILL REDEEM ISRAEL FROM ALL HIS SINS.

PSALM 131

My heart's not proud, O Lord.
  -My eyes aren't haughty.
-I don't concern myself with great matters
-Or things too wonderful for me.
-I've stilled and quieted my soul
-Like a child with its mother.
ISRAEL PUT YOUR HOPE IN THE LORD NOW AND
FOREVER.

PSALM 132

O Lord, remember all David's hardships.
-He made a vow to the Lord
-Not to enter his house or sleep
-'til he found a dwelling place for the
        Lord.
-We heard the call in Bethlehem,
    -"Let's go to Jerusalem and
    -Worship at His footstool.
-Arise O Lord, come to your resting place,
-You and the Ark of your might.
-May your priests be clothed with
      faithfulness
      -Your saints sing for joy."
-For David's sake, don't reject your anointed
    one.
  -The Lord swore to David,
-I'll put one of your descendants on your
      throne
-If your sons keep my covenant and my
        statutes
-Their sons will sit on your throne
          forever.

For the Lord's chosen Zion for His dwelling
-Saying, "It's my resting place for ever
    -Here I'll sit enthroned.
    -I'll bless her abundantly
      -Satisfying her poor with food.
-I'll clothe her priests with salvation.
-Her saints will ever sing for joy.
    -I'll strengthen David
-And set up a lamp for my anointed one.
-I'll clothe his enemies with shame
-But his crown will be resplendent."

PSALM 133

It's good and pleasant when brothers live
together in unity.
-Like precious oil on the head running down to
    the beard.
-As if Mt Hermon's dew were falling on Mt
    Zion.
-For there the Lord bestows His blessing
      -Even life for evermore.

PSALM 134

All you servants of the Lord
-Who minister by night in His house,
    -Praise the Lord.
-Lift your hands in His sanctuary.
May the Lord, maker of heaven and earth
  -Bless you from Zion.

PSALM 135

Praise the Lord
  -You servants of the Lord
-Who minister in the Lord's house and its
      courts.
Praise the Lord for He's good.
  -Sing praise to Him.
-The Lord's chosen Israel as His treasured
      possession.
  -I know the Lord's greater
    -Than all gods.
    -He does whatever pleases Him.
-In the heavens, on earth and in the seas.
-He sends lightning, rain and wind.
      -He struck down Egypt's firstborn.
-He sent signs and wonders into Egypt's
        midst
        -Against Pharaoh and his servants.
      -He struck down many nations
        -And killed mighty kings
-Giving their land as an inheritance
        -To His people Israel.
-Your name and renown, O Lord, endures
    forever.
-The Lord will vindicate His people and have
      compassion on His servants.
-Nations' idols, made by men, are silver and
      gold with
-Mouths that can't speak or breathe.
        -Eyes that can't see.
        -Ears that can't hear.
-Those who make and trust them will be
        like them.
-Israel and all who fear Him, praise the Lord.
-Praise be to the Lord who dwells in
      Jerusalem from Zion.
PRAISE THE LORD.

PSALM 136

THANK THE LORD FOR HE'S GOOD.
HIS LOVE ENDURES FOREVER.
  -He is God of gods
    -And Lord of lords.
  -He alone does great wonders,
    -Making the heavens
-Spreading out the earth upon the waters,
    -Making sun, moon and stars.
    -Striking down Egypt's firstborn,
-Bringing Israel out from among them.
-With mighty hand and outstretched arm
      -He divided the Red Sea,
      -Brought Israel through
-But swept Pharaoh and his army into it.
-Leading His people through the desert
    -Striking down mighty kings.
-Giving them land as an inheritance
      -To His servant Israel
-Remembering us in our low estate.
    -Freeing us from our enemies.
    -Giving food to every creature.

GIVE THANKS TO THE GOD OF HEAVEN.

PSALM 137

On the poplars, by Babylon's rivers, we hung our
harps, sat and wept
  -When we remembered Zion.

-Our captors and tormentors demanded songs of
    joy.
-They said, "Sing us one of Zion's songs."
-HOW CAN WE SING THE LORD'S SONGS
    -IN A FOREIGN LAND?

-If I forget you, Jerusalem, and don't
consider you my highest joy, may my
    -Right hand forget its skill.
-Tongue cling to the roof of my mouth.

-O Lord, remember that the Edomites said the
    day Jerusalem fell
-"Tear it down to its foundations."

  -O Babylon, doomed to destruction,
-Happy he who repays you for what you've
      done to us,
-Who dashes your infants against rocks.

PSALM 138

I'll praise you, O Lord, with all my heart.
  -I'll sing your praise.
-I'll bow down towards your holy temple.
  -I'll praise your name
    -For your love and faithfulness.
-For you've exalted your name and word above
      all things.
-I called and you answered me
-Making me bold and stout hearted.

-May all earth's kings praise you O Lord.
    -When they hear your words
-May they sing of your ways.
      -For your glory's great.

  -Though the Lord's on high
    -He looks on the lowly.
-But the proud He knows from afar.
-I'm in the midst of trouble but
      -You preserve my life
-Stretching out your hand against my
          foes' anger and saving me.

-THE LORD WILL FULFILL HIS PURPOSE FOR ME.
    -YOUR LOVE ENDURES FOREVER.
-Don't abandon the works of your hands.

PSALM 139

O Lord you've searched and know me, you're
familiar with all my ways. You know:
  -When I sit and rise.
  -What I'm thinking.
  -My going out.
  -My lying down.
-My next word before I speak it.
You hem me in, you've laid your hand on me,
behind and before.
-Such knowledge is too wonderful, too lofty
    for me.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
  -Where flee from your presence?
    -To the heavens? You're there.
-By making my bed in the depths? You're
      there.
    -Rising on dawn's wing?
-Settling on the far side of the sea?
-Even there your hand will guide and
        -Hold me fast.
-If I say darkness will hide me,
-Even darkness is not too dark for you.
        -Night will shine like day.
-Darkness is as light to you.
    -You created my inmost being,
-Knit me together in my mother's womb.
-I praise you because I'm fearfully and
        wonderfully made.
      -Your works are wonderful.
        -I know that full well.
-My frame's not hidden from you.
-When I was made in the secret place,
-Woven together in the earth's depths,
-Your eyes saw my unformed body.
-All the days ordained for me
        -Were written in your book
-Before one of them came to be.
-HOW PRECIOUS ARE YOUR THOUGHTS TO ME O GOD.
-How vast the sum of them.
-Counted, they'd outnumber the grains of
          sand.
      -When I wake
        -I'm still with you.

If only you'd slay the wicked O God.
      -Away from me bloodthirsty men
-Who speak of you with evil intent.
          -Adversaries who misuse your name.
-I hate those who hate you, O Lord.
-I abhor those who rise up against you.
          -They're my enemies.

SEARCH ME, O GOD AND KNOW MY HEART. TEST ME AND
KNOW MY ANXIOUS THOUGHTS.
-See if there's any offensive way in me
-And lead me in the way everlasting.

PSALM 140

Rescue and protect me from evil violent men who
-Devise evil plans in their hearts.
  -Stir up war daily.
-Make their tongues sharp and poisonous as
    serpents and vipers.
Keep and protect me from wicked violent proud
men who
  -Plan to trip my feet.
-Have hidden a snare, traps along my path.

O sovereign Lord, my strong deliverer, I say to
you,
  -You're my God
-Who shields my head in the day of battle.
  -Hear my cry for mercy.
  -Don't grant the wicked's desires.
    -Don't let their plans succeed
      -Or they'll become proud
  -Let those surrounding me
-Be covered with the trouble they've caused.
-Have burning coals fall on them
-And be thrown into the fire
-Into miry pits, never to rise.
-Let slanderers not be established in the
    land.
-May disaster hunt down violent men.

I know the Lord secures justice for the poor
  -And upholds the needy's cause.
The faithful will praise your name.
-The upright will live before you.

PSALM 141

O Lord, listen and come quickly.
-May my prayer be set before you like incense
-My lifted hands like the evening sacrifice.
-Set a guard over my mouth.
-Don't let my heart be drawn to evil
-To share in wicked deeds with evildoers.
-Let me not eat of their delicacies.
-Let a faithful man strike me, it's a kindness
-And rebuke me, it's oil on my head, I'll
      not refuse it.
-My prayer's ever against evildoers' deeds.
-Their rulers will be thrown from the
      cliffs.
-Wicked men will learn my words are well
        spoken.
-They'll say, "As a plough scatters earth,
-So our bones will be scattered at the
          grave's mouth."
But my eyes are fixed on you, sovereign Lord.
  -I take refuge in you.
    -Don't let me die.
-Keep me from the snares and traps laid by
      evildoers.
-Let the wicked fall into their own nets
      -While I pass safely by.

PSALM 142

I pour out my complaint and cry aloud to the
Lord for mercy
-When my spirit grows faint within me
    -You know my way.
-Men have hidden a snare in the path I walk.
-No one is concerned or cares for my life.
      -I have no refuge.
-I cry to you O, Lord.
-You're my refuge, my portion in the land of
      the living.
-Listen to my cry of desperate need.
-Rescue me from pursuers too strong for me.
    -Free me from my prison
-That I may praise your name.
-Then the faithful will gather about me
-Because of your goodness to me.

PSALM 143

O Lord hear my prayer, my cry for mercy.
-In your faithfulness come to my relief.
-Don't bring me to judgment for
-No one living is righteous before you.

The enemy pursues me
  -Crushing me to the ground,
-Making me dwell in darkness like the dead.
  -My spirit faints within me.
    -My heart's dismayed.

I remember days of long ago,
  -Meditate on your works,
-And consider what your hands have done.
-I spread out my hands to you.
-My soul thirsts for you like a parched
      land.
  -Answer quickly O Lord.
    -My spirit faints with longing.
-Hide your face and I'll be like one
      -Going to the grave.
-Let morning bring word of your unfailing
      love
-For I've put my trust in you.
-Show me the way to go
-For to you I lift up my soul.
-Rescue me from my enemies O Lord
-For I hide myself in you.
TEACH ME TO DO YOUR WILL
  -FOR YOU'RE MY GOD.
MAY YOUR GOOD SPIRIT
  -LEAD ME ON LEVEL GROUND.
-For your name's sake preserve my life.
-In your faithfulness bring me out of
      trouble.
-In your unfailing love silence my enemies.
    -Destroy all my foes
    -For I'm your servant.

PSALM 144

Praise the Lord my rock
-Who trains my hands for war
-He's my loving God, fortress, stronghold and
    deliverer,
-My shield in whom I take refuge
      -Who subdues peoples under me.
-O Lord what's man that you care for him,
-The son of man that you think of him?
      -Man's like a breath, a fleeting shadow.
-Part your heavens Lord and come down.
-Touch the mountains, so they smoke.
-Send lightning, scatter enemies, shoot your
      arrows, rout them.
-Reach your hand down from on high.
-Deliver and rescue me from the deceitful
        hands of foreigners
-Whose mouths are full of lies.

-I'll sing a new song to you, O God.
-I'll make music on the ten stringed lyre,
-To the one who gives kings victory,
-Delivering David from the deadly sword.

-Then our youthful sons will be like well
    nurtured plants.
-Our daughters like carved pillars to adorn
      a palace.
    -Our barns will be filled.
-Our sheep will increase by thousands.
-Our oxen will draw heavy loads.
-There'll be no breaching of walls
      -Going into captivity
-Or cry of distress in our streets.
BLESSED ARE THE PEOPLE OF WHOM THIS IS TRUE.
BLESSED ARE THE PEOPLE WHOSE GOD IS THE LORD.

PSALM 145

I'll exalt you my God the King
-And extol and praise your name daily forever.
-The Lord's great and most worthy of praise.
-No one can fathom His greatness.
-One generation will tell the next of your

      mighty acts.
-They'll speak of the glorious splendour
        of your majesty
-The power of your awesome works
      -And celebrate your abundant goodness
-And joyfully sing of your faithfulness.
-And I'll meditate on your wonderful works
        -And proclaim your great deeds.

  -The Lord's gracious and compassionate
-Slow to anger and rich in love,
-Good and compassionate to all He's made.
-All you've made will praise you.
      -Your saints will extol you.
-They'll tell of the glory of your
          kingdom
        -And speak of your might
-So all will know of your mighty acts,
          -The glorious splendour of your
            everlasting kingdom,
          -Your dominion enduring through all
            generations.
-The Lord's faithful to all His promises.
      -Loving to all He made.
      -He upholds all who fall
-And lifts up all the bowed down.
    -All eyes look to you
-And you feed them at the proper time
-Opening your hand to satisfy their
          desires.
-The Lord's righteous in all His ways.
      -Loving to all He's made.
-Near to all who call on Him in truth.
-Fulfilling the desires of those who fear
        Him,
-Hearing their cry and saving them.
-The Lord watches over all who love Him
        -But He'll destroy the wicked.
I'LL SPEAK IN PRAISE OF THE LORD.
-LET EVERY CREATURE PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME FOR
    EVER.

PSALM 146

Praise the Lord, O my soul.
I'll sing praise to my God all my life.
-Don't trust princes, men who can't save.
They, with their plans, end up in the grave.
-He whose help is the Lord his God and who
    hopes in Him
    -Has peace of heart.
    -His God
-Made heaven, earth and the sea and all in
        them.
      -Remains faithful forever.
-Upholds the cause of the oppressed.
      -Feeds the hungry.
      -Sets prisoners free.
      -Gives sight to the blind.
      -Lifts up those bowed down.
      -Loves the faithful.
      -Watches over the alien.
      -Sustains the fatherless and widow.
      -Frustrates the wicked.
      -Reigns forever.
PRAISE THE LORD.

PSALM 147

-It's good, pleasant and fitting to sing
    praises to our God who
    -Builds up Jerusalem.
    -Gathers Israel's exiles.
-Binds up and heals the wounds of the

      brokenhearted.
-Determines the number of stars and names
      each.
-Our Lord's great, mighty in power, with
    limitless understanding. He
    -Sustains the humble.
-Casts the wicked to the ground.
-Sing thanksgiving and make music on the harp
    to our God who
    -Covers the sky with clouds.
    -Supplies rain.
-Makes grass grow on the hills.
-Provides food for the cattle and young
      ravens.
    -Doesn't pleasure in a horse's strength
-Or delight in a man's legs
      -But delights in those who
        -Fear Him and
-Put their hope in His unfailing love.
-Extol and praise your God O Jerusalem and
    Zion for He
    -Strengthens your barred gates.
    -Blesses your people within you.
    -Grants peace to your borders.
    -Satisfies you with finest wheat.
-Sends His command to the earth, with
      swiftly running words.
    -Spreads snow like wool.
    -Scatters frost like ashes.
    -Hurls hail down like pebbles.
-Who can withstand His icy blast?
      -With a word He
        -Melts them
-Stirs His breezes so the waters flow.
-Revealed His word, laws and decrees to
      Israel.
-Something He's done for no other nation -
        they don't know His laws.
PRAISE THE LORD.
PSALM 148

Praise the Lord
  -From the heavens.
  -In the heights above.
-All His angels and heavenly hosts.
  -Sun, moon and shining stars.
  -Highest heavens.
  -Water above the skies.

Praise the Lord's name because
-He commanded and they were created.
-He set them in place for ever.

Praise the Lord
  -From the earth.
  -Sea creatures and ocean depths.
-Lightning, hail, snow, clouds and stormy
    winds who obey Him.
-Mountains, hills, fruit and cedar trees.
-Wild animals, cattle, small creatures and
    flying birds.
-Kings, nations, princes and earth's rulers.
-Young men, maidens, old men and children.
-Let them praise the Lord for
      -His name alone is exalted.
-His splendour's above earth and heavens.
-He's raised up a strong one for His
        people.
-The praise of all His saints, Israel,
          the
          -People close to His heart.
PRAISE THE LORD.

-And sing joyfully on their beds.
      -May their mouths praise God
-And their hands hold a double edged sword
-To inflict vengeance and punishment on
          nations and peoples.
        -Binding kings with fetters and
        -Nobles with iron shackles,
        -Carrying out the sentence written
          against them.

PSALM 150

Praise the Lord
  -In His sanctuary.
  -In His mighty heavens.
  -For His acts of power.
  -For His surpassing greatness.
-With sounding of trumpet, harp, lyre,
    tambourine,
    -Dancing, strings, flute and resounding
      cymbals.

LET EVERYTHING THAT HAS BREATH PRAISE THE LORD.

PRAISE THE LORD.
HERE ARE SOME MAIN POINTS FROM THE PSALMS.

 1. You'll have peace of heart and prosper if
you delight in, meditate on, God, His word
and law, live by it and avoid the wicked and
    their ways.
                                       Psalm 1

 2. Non believers and their nations, by leaving
the unseen heavenly dimension of our God out
of their thought and actions are, of
    necessity, in rebellion against Him.

As a result, they now bring judgment on
themselves and unless they turn from their
ways to God and His ways, they'll finally be
overthrown by our Lord, Jesus Christ.
                                       Psalm 2

 3. As God's man, the daily reality is that the
devil is trying to destroy you. But (with
no unconfessed sin) you rest, like a small
child, clasping the hand of the Lord of the
universe. He neutered Satan's power at
Calvary's cross. So all Satan can do is to
falsely accuse and try to con you. Therefore
the size and virulence of all opposition is
of no consequence. Clasp your heavenly
Father's hand tighter. Focus on Him and not
the opposition. And relax. This is just
David and Goliath again, with the same
    outcome. INEVITABLE.
                                       Psalm 3
                                       Psalm 17

 4. When Satan attacks, immediately look up to
    your Father and:
         -Rest silently.
         -Search your heart.
         -Trust and obey Him.
And you'll enjoy peace of heart and safety.
                                       Psalm 4

 5. It's good to list the strategies Satan has
used against you. Then early each morning,
have a good talk to your heavenly Father
about doing His will for the day and asking
Him to thwart these and any new strategies
of Satan. Over the page you'll find a daily
prayer sheet we use for this purpose.
                                       Psalm 5

 6. Always be 100% honest with the Lord. The
most real relationship you'll ever have with
anyone is the one with Him. And reality
demands honesty. You won't offend Him by
telling Him when you're "fed up to the back
    teeth."
                                       Psalm 6

 7. A final historical Judgment Day for the
earth and all its peoples is coming. But
it's good to view each day as a lifetime
complete in itself. (After all your life is,
like a book, only the sum of its pages). And
judgment operates daily. Love your neighbour
and you'll be judged with an approving
smile. You'll feel good. Angrily abuse him
    and the reverse judgment applies.
                                       Psalm 7
 8. Satan's lies are negative. "You're no good,
you'll fail, you can't" etc. But the factual
reality is that you're made in God's image.
John's Gospel, Chapters 14 to 17 show that,
as a believer in your Lord, Jesus Christ,
God actually is in residence within you. You
need to dwell on and act upon this fact.
Negatives will be past history, all will be
positive. Anyone for walking on water!?
    Think about that.
                                       Psalm 8

 9. Irrespective of circumstances, the acid test
of the reality of your relationship with
your Lord, Jesus Christ is your desire to
praise Him with all your heart, be glad and
rejoice. Nothing will get people into His
kingdom quicker than people seeing how
positive and cheerful you are and asking
why. It's a negative fearful world out
there. You'll shine like a beacon on a black
    night.
                                       Psalm 9

10. But what if you end up "in Auschwitz"? (The
    German concentration camp used to
exterminate the Jews during World War 2).
Just be honest. Ask why. And keep asking.
The most important thing is to keep your
relationship with God real and close
    irrespective of circumstances.
                                       Psalm 10

11. Prayers for you to use in "Auschwitz."
                         Psalms 11, 12, 13, & 14

12. Use this psalm to test your relationship
    with God.
                                       Psalm 15
13. The ultimate test. How do you feel about
inevitable death? Need help? Here's the
    psalm for you.
                                       Psalm 16

NOTE: For Psalm 17, see point 3.

14. The first priority of your life is to have
and maintain complete harmony in your
    relationship with your heavenly Father.
(Through your Lord, Jesus Christ). Good
relationships are based on each knowing all
they can about the other. These psalms help
you look up to your heavenly Father and
    understand what He is like.
                                  Psalms 18 & 19

15. You need 100% security producing 100% peace
and 100% confidence. This psalm shows it
comes from 100% trust in your heavenly
    Father.
                                       Psalm 20

16. Test whether your relationship with your
heavenly Father is real. It's real if it
    produces TANGIBLE HISTORICAL RESULTS for
both of you. Otherwise it may be no more
than academic "play acting." God's not
interested in that. He's interested in
producing REAL RESULTS in the grind,
monotony, joys and pain of your daily life.
He is not a far off disinterested observer
but a Father swinging the sword beside you
in the blood and sweat of battle. That's
where close real relationships grow, not in
academic study about God in the secluded
quietness of some theological library. We're
talking REAL LIFE not academic theory.
                                       Psalm 21

17. One law gives life.
It's God's law, whereby you show you really
know and love Him by joyfully trusting and
obeying Him 100% and therefore loving others
    100%.

The penalty for disobeying and breaking it
    (sin) is death.

From disobedience in Eden's garden to this
moment, history has been written in blood.
The penalty for God's broken law - death's
blood. Mankind in a hopeless state.

Who could fix it? Only God Himself. That's
what He did in the person of His Son the
Lord, Jesus Christ. One life, one death good
enough to pay the death penalty for all
mankind. One sacrificial act to satisfy
    God's own law.

And, suspended between heaven and earth on a
    regulation Roman government execution cross
at a specific historical time, the moment
for the penalty to be paid came. The moment
when the Lord Jesus Christ who had enjoyed
an unbroken relationship with God from the
beginning of time, would suffer the death of
    separation. The utter desolation of
shouldering your sin and dying the death you
deserve. Being absolutely forsaken by His
Father because of His love for you.

That's when He uttered the first line only
of Psalm 22. "My God, my God, why have you
    forsaken me?"

But the perfect man, (the man you have the
potential by God's grace and the power of

His mighty Holy Spirit, to become) knew the
rest of the psalm. As a supreme act of faith
(He was human, in a sense He had no
guarantee of success) He gave His life
because, as you see by reading the end of
the psalm, He believed He would be
    resurrected.

He got it right. He was! Hallelujah!

We suggest you regularly, prayerfully study
this psalm & the next two psalms. You can see
and understand that GOD IS LOVE. It's God's
    motivation,therefore yours. (Psalm 22)

18. Jesus was really human. He showed He
believed His Father's word by acting upon
it. So, believing this psalm was true, He
surrendered His life on a cross. No
intellectual theorising here, but taking God
at His word in a life and death situation.
Yours must be a 100% commitment to the Lord
Jesus Christ and a life of PRACTICAL ACTION
    based on God's word.
                                       Psalm 23

19. Beyond the valley of the shadow of death
this word of His Father beckoned Jesus to
the heavenly realm. It made the cross not an
end but a gateway. It showed Jesus the big
complete picture. Act upon God's word and
    you'll have the same experience.

But clean hands and a pure heart are
essential. At the slightest disharmony in
your life identify if it's due to sin and if
so, immediately confess and be cleansed of
    it.
                                       Psalm 24
20. Make this your prayer to God, "Show me your
ways, teach me your paths, guide and teach
me in your truth. Test and try me, examine
my heart and mind. May your love be ever
before me and may I walk in your truth
    continually."
                                  Psalms 25 & 26

21. As God's man you'll be subjected to Satan's
attacks. It's just another fact of this
    life.

But the greater fact is that your life is
centred in the Lord Jesus Christ. So He
surrounds you making you secure in an
    impregnable stronghold. Therefore you need
never ever fear anyone or anything. So take
    heart, be strong and courageous.

As God's man you need fear only one thing.
And that's displeasing your heavenly Father
    by sinning.
            Psalms 27, 28, 31, 35, 54, 55,
                    83, 109, 120, 123, 124, 129.

22. God's made everything and He keeps
    it all running.
It's good to view everything in this light.
Enter into and enjoy with Him the opening of
a rose bud and the majestic power of one
    of His thunder storms.
                                       Psalm 29

23. As surely as day follows night, the outcome
of your right relationship with God will be
    praise.
                                       Psalm 30

24. Confess sin quickly to the Lord and enjoy

the peace of heart He gives. Otherwise
you'll groan all day under His heavy hand.
                                       Psalm 32

25. Like the psalmist, we encourage you to
meditate upon the sort of person God is.
List the things He's done especially in your
    relationship.
                              Psalms 33, 34 & 36

26. Delight in, commit your way to the Lord,
trust Him and He will give you your heart's
desires. Be still before the Lord, wait
    patiently for Him.

In a world full of corruption, lawlessness
and violence which seems to go unpunished,
take comfort from the fact that it IS God's
world, perfect justice will finally prevail
and all unrepentant sinners will be
    destroyed.
                                       Psalm 37

27. No matter how seemingly hopeless your
circumstances, always remember to look up,
confess sin and call to the Lord for help.
                          Psalms 38, 39, 42, 43

28. God wants His word and law to be within your
heart so that the greatest delight of your
life is to do His will. No amount of
religious activity can substitute for this.
                                       Psalm 40

29. If Jesus Christ is the Lord of your life, He
lives in you in the person of the Holy
Spirit in order to live through you. So
caring for the weak and helpless is one of
    your jobs. Psalm 41

30. Real faith in God means knowing that
EVERYTHING that happens to you both good and
(seemingly) bad are part of His plan for
    your life.

So, in adversity, you may stridently, even
angrily question why. But you don't doubt He
    is real and STILL there.
                                       Psalm 44

31. God Almighty is with you, your refuge,
strength and fortress, an ever present help
    in trouble.
    Therefore be absolutely fearless.
BE STILL and KNOW He is God.
                                       Psalm 46

32. The Lord, Jesus Christ is risen from the
dead. All earth's evil is defeated -
decisively dealt with. It's a fact, now not
understood by the nations. But it will be -
    when Christ returns.
                                       Psalm 47

33. Mt Zion may still be visited to-day. But the
Lord, Jesus Christ, is enthroned in a
heavenly Mt Zion, the new Jerusalem. If you
believe in Him you'll be able to meditate on
    His unfailing love there.
                                       Psalm 48

34. Read this psalm to get the world's obsession
with riches and pleasure into perspective.
God has redeemed your life from the grave as
you've responded by faith in the death and
resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ.
                                       Psalm 49

35. The acid test of your relationship with God,

is your desire to thank and praise Him for
being the source of your life. This means
more to Him than all religious "worship"
activities. Because it shows you REALLY know
    Him.
                                       Psalm 50

36. Sin is doing your will instead of God's
will. With 100% certainty it will foul
up your life. In one sense, all sin is
against yourself first. But primarily it is
against God, then yourself, then others. It
    destroys your relationships. It creates
disharmony within, with God and with others.
    It's a TOTAL DISASTER! Until it's confessed
and removed you're of no real use to
    yourself or anyone else.

You need to meditate your way through this
psalm 2 or 3 times each week.
                                       Psalm 51

37. There is absolutely no future in this life
or the next for the Godless man.
                                  Psalms 52 & 53

38. Surrounded by enemies? No problem. Tell the
Lord all about it and then with the psalmist
say "I trust you and therefore am unafraid,
for what can man do to me?" And praise God
    for His protection.
                 Psalms 56, 57, 58, 59, 60,
                         61, 62, 64, 70, 94,
                        140, 141, 142, 143, 144.

39. God loves you and He's big enough and strong
enough to knock off all your enemies.
                                       Psalm 62
40. Love between a man and a woman can be an all
consuming passion. They think of nothing but
each other. They can't spend too much time
together. The sun shines brighter, birds
sing sweeter, flowers look prettier. Your
relationship with the Lord, Jesus Christ,
    should be like this.
                                  Psalms 63 & 84

41. The Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ:
     -Created the universe.
-Voluntarily gave His life so you escape
       from sin's curse.
-Enables you to believe in Him and
       therefore have eternal life.
-Cares for the land and everything in it so
that each lily of the field, lifting its
face to the Lord expresses joy and song
       to Him.
-SO JOIN WITH IT, SHOUT FOR JOY AND SING.
                                  Psalms 65 & 66

42. As God's man He may allow you to go through
a furnace. You won't enjoy the heat. But it
will be the only doorway to the rich love
relationship He yearns to have with you.
                                       Psalm 66

43. The purpose of all God's love lavished on
you is not JUST for your benefit. It's so
others may get to know Him too. So remember,
you are not to be like a bucket filled once
with a "couple of gallons" of the living
water of God's love, then just spending a
lifetime standing unused in the desert.
    That's a recipe for stagnation.

No! You are to be POURED OUT and continually
refilled so that, in a life time, millions

of gallons of living water will bring life
    to the desert.

Put another way, be a pipeline for Jesus
Christ (unclogged by sin) instead of a
    receptacle for Him.
                                   Psalm 67 & 72

44. If you ever feel God's inadequate to meet
your needs ponder this psalm and be
    encouraged.
                                       Psalm 68

45. You're God's man and the road is VERY VERY
hard. God seems unfair but others have
travelled it before you. And been able to
praise God. So pause. Read Psalm 69. Be
encouraged. Press on. The Lord, Jesus Christ
travelled a harder road for you than the one
    you're on.
                                       Psalm 69

46. Crime obviously pays. So why be good? This
    psalm has the answer.
    As for you:
-God holds your right hand and guides you.
-So you want nothing on earth but God.
-God's your refuge, the strength of
       your heart.
     -Tell of all God's deeds.
                                       Psalm 73

47. When the going is tough, stop, look up to
God and recount His many past blessings to
you. Get your situation in perspective.
Check how the Israelites did it in these
    psalms.
                                   Psalm 74 & 77

48. The world is full of injustice, corruption
    and violence which seemingly goes
unpunished. But perfect justice will be done
because God will judge everyone on Judgment
    Day.
                              Psalm 75, 76 & 82

49 It's vitally important to enter the
    political, geographical, historical
realities of God's word in the Bible. You'll
never get to know God by mere academic
study. You must walk in the blood, toil,
sweat and tears of Israel and EXPERIENCE the
same in your historical journey with God.
You can learn more about God in 10 minutes
being lifted out of the gutter or lifting
someone else out than spending 4 years at
university doing a Ph.D in Christianity.

Thank God that He is in the business of
making something out of failures like you
and me. It means there's hope for ABSOLUTELY
    EVERYONE.
                                       Psalm 78

50. Persist in sinning and as sure as night
follows day, you'll be in for trouble. In
essence your life is simple. Obey God and
you'll have peace of heart irrespective of
circumstances (whether in a king's palace or
a filthy dungeon). Disobey Him and you'll
    have no peace of heart.

So when you lose your peace of heart, stop,
look up to God and ask "Is the cause:
-My sin?" If so, confess and turn 100% from
       from it.
-"A con by the devil?" If so, tell him
where to go - in Jesus' name.

-"A Job-like testing allowed by God for my
       ultimate benefit?"
                              Psalms 79, 80 & 81

51. The history of God's people alternates
    between obedience (rare) and disobedience
(common). There is a constant need for
    personal and corporate (Christian group)
revival. This is nothing more than taking
sin seriously and being rid of it quickly.
Which is the last thing any of us want to
do. That's why revival is rare. Much easier
to be off on some "Christian" ego trip.
                                       Psalm 85

52. Pray this prayer:
Teach me your way O Lord
And I'll walk in your truth.
       Give me an undivided heart
That I may reverently respect your name.
                                       Psalm 86

53. If you visit Jerusalem you'll experience
first hand what it means to be in a
geographic place the Lord has specially
    chosen and blessed.
                                       Psalm 87

54. In your darkest hour keep calling out to the
    Lord.
                                       Psalm 88

55. Spend time absorbing the wonder of how great
God is. And be warned that sin will separate
you from His blessings until you genuinely
turn from it and return to God.
                                  Psalms 89 & 93

56. Spend time in the past only to praise God

for His goodness to you and to gain
encouragement and strength for the present.
Limit your time in the future to goals God
has given you to achieve. It's to-day that
must have your full attention. Treat it as
being the last one you'll have to do God's
will. Treat it as a life complete in itself.
Awakening is like birth, morning like youth,
midday like middle age, evening like old age
and sleep like death. Make the minutes and
hours count for God. At evening can you hear
His "Well done good and faithful servant?"
                                 Psalms 90 & 118

57. Make the most high your dwelling and:
-You'll find refuge and rest in His shadow.
     -You need fear nothing.
-He will command angels to guard your ways,
protect you and give you victory.
                                       Psalm 91

58. A strong desire to praise the Lord and God,
Jesus Christ, shows your relationship is
based on a good understanding of who He is.
                      Psalms 92, 95, 96, 98,
                             100, 103, 104, 105,
                             108, 111, 113, 117,
                                       138, 145.

59. Gain perspective about your life, the world
and its history by meditating on the fact
that this is God's world and the
    implications of that.
                      Psalms 97, 99, 102, 104,
                                  105, 114, 115.

60. For a checklist of the sort of person you
    should be, read this psalm.
                                       Psalm 101
61. Jewish history (His story) is the same as
yours, mine and the church. God's undeserved
endless love, patience and forgiveness and
    our stubborn rebelliousness. The totally
illogical fact that we insist on acting as
if we know better than God and the
inevitable disasters we bring on ourselves
as a result. So these psalms should be read
    at least once a week.
                                Psalms 106 & 107

62. This is a "signpost" psalm pointing forward
    to the Lord, Jesus Christ.
                                       Psalm 110

63. This psalm tells you what your life will be
like if you have reverent awe for the Lord
and take great delight in obeying His
    commands.
                                       Psalm 112

64. You can't REALLY know the Lord by reading
about Him. Even in the Bible. A real
    relationship grows from shared historical
experiences. You will face an enemy you
can't possibly defeat and who wants your
total destruction. You cry out to the Lord.
He says, Do you think I'm big enough to
defeat him? What can you say? So the Lord
says, Let's do it together. Later, bloodied
but victorious you look to the Lord. He
smiles and says, Did you learn something?
NOW you've got something to tell people.
Welcome to the company of the Lord's Davids,
    Daniels, Abrahams.
                                Psalms 116 & 118

65. What God does and what He says are the same.
That's why it says in John's Gospel, Chapter
1, verse 14 of Jesus that "The Word became
flesh and dwelt among us." So love of God's
word equals love of God Himself. Therefore:
-Hide His word in your heart so you won't
       sin against God.
-Ask God to open your eyes so you can see
       wonderful things in His law.
-Run in the paths of God's commands and He
       will set your heart free.
-Ask Him to teach, give understanding and
turn your heart to His law.
-Become aware that the earth's full of
       His love.
     -If you're afflicted it's part of God's
       faithfulness.
-God's word is a lamp to your feet and a
       light for your path.
-By loving God's law you'll have great
       peace.
                                       Psalm 119

66. Want ultimate security? Here's the psalm for
    you. Read it weekly.
                                       Psalm 121

67. You're unshakable and will endure forever
when you trust wholly in the Lord.
                                       Psalm 125

68. You appreciate home much more after
returning from exile in a foreign country.
                                       Psalm 126

69. Activity outside God's will is a waste of
    time.
                                       Psalm 127

70. Peace of heart comes from having reverent

respect for God and walking in His ways.
                                       Psalm 128

71. When you're unhappy it will be due to one of
    three causes:
     1. Rarely God may allow you to be tested
        like Job was.
     2. More often you'll allow the devil to con
        you into being worried.
     3. Mostly it will be due to your own sin.
Disobedience to God's will. The solution
to that is only a prayer away.
                                       Psalm 130

72. May you, like the psalmist, have a still
quiet soul as you rest safe and secure in
the Lord, Jesus Christ. Just like a child
    cradled in its mother's arms.
                                       Psalm 131

73. May we be as highly motivated as David was
to achieve the goals the Lord gives us.
                                       Psalm 132

74. Pray that believers in the Lord, Jesus
Christ everywhere, will be so centred in Him
    that scandalous denominational divisions
will disappear. Also that ministers will be
100% servants who are full of praise to God.
                           Psalms 133, 134 & 135

75. It's important to know, understand and pass
    on to others, the historical/geographical
record of God's dealings with His people.
Our God has never been a remote
    disinterested observer or a mere
    intellectual concept. He's always been
personally involved in the sweat, tears and

    joys of daily life.
                                       Psalm 136

76. If, like Israel, you're a captive, exiled in
a foreign land, it's easy in your anger to
forget you're there because of your sin.
                                       Psalm 137

77. God knows you completely and loves you
    unconditionally. Meditate your way through
    this psalm often.
                                       Psalm 139

78. It is fitting that the Book of Psalms
concludes with praise. If you REALLY know
God all you want to do is praise Him. The
psalmists had this right, concluding with
"LET EVERYTHING THAT HAS BREATH PRAISE THE
    LORD. PRAISE THE LORD."
                 Psalms 146, 147. 148, 149 & 150
