"What Happens to Those Who Oppose God and His
People" is based on a book written by Obadiah
probably about 600 B.C. Quotes are from the
N.I.V. Bible and our comments are in brackets.
Pride of heart deceives those who oppose God and
His people. They feel impregnable in the lofty
heights of their intellectual, material and
power structures.
But God is against them so they end up being
small and despised. "Though you soar like the
eagle and make your nest among the stars, from
there, I will bring you down declares the
Lord....your allies will force you to the
border; your friends will despise and overpower
you," the wise and powerful will be destroyed
because:
- of their violence towards God's people.
- they didn't aid God's people "in the day of
their destruction."
- they took advantage of God's people in the
day of destruction.
So to such people God says that His day of
judgement is near. "As you have done, it will be
done to you; your deeds will return upon your
own head." None of them will survive.
But God's people will be delivered and they will
be holy "and the Kingdom will be the Lord's."
