NAHUM
WHAT HAPPENS TO GOD'S ENEMIES.

"What Happens to God's Enemies" is based on a
book written by Nahum about 650 B.C. Quotes are
from the N.I.V. Bible and our comments are in
brackets.

(God won the battle between good and evil on
this earth when, in the person of Jesus Christ,
He died on the cross and rose to life again.
But, until Christ returns to earth to totally
destroy the devil, Satan continues hit and run
attacks against God's people. If you have turned
from running your life your way and trusted
Jesus Christ to live His life through you, then
you are one of His people and you will
experience attacks. But Nahum encourages you by
putting you in the big picture about God's final
elimination of your enemy).

"The Lord is a jealous and avenging
God...against His enemies." He is slow to anger,
great in power and will not leave the guilty
unpunished. "The earth trembles at His presence,
the world and all who live in it."

Yet "the Lord is good, a refuge in times of
trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him
but...He will pursue His foes into darkness."

But those who plot evil against the Lord, with
their numerous allies, will be cut off.

Though God has allowed your enemies to afflict
you, He will "break their yoke...and tear your
shackles away." Because they are vile to Him God
will destroy their idols and prepare their
graves.  "No  more will  the wicked  invade you;
they will be completely destroyed."
But for you "look, there on the mountains, the
feet of one who brings good news, who proclaims
peace."
                                          (Ch 1)

God will restore your splendour and your enemies
will be laid waste, pillaged, plundered and
stripped. Their messengers will no longer be
heard.
                                          (Ch 2)

God describes the typical modern city under
enemy control as a "City of Blood, full of
lies... never without victims," having the
"wanton lust of a harlot," enslaving people "by
her prostitution ... and ... witchcraft. ... You
have increased the number of your merchants...
but like locusts they strip the land and then
fly away."

Of such places God says "I am against you...
nothing can heal your wound; your injury is
fatal. Everyone who hears the news about you
claps his hands at your fall, for who has not
felt your endless cruelty?"
                                          (Ch 3)

HERE IS THE MAIN POINT FROM NAHUM:

The devil will try to neutralise you by
overwhelming you with negatives. Using the T.V.,
press and radio to promote bad news is a classic
strategy.
But be encouraged, this is God's world. He has
the last say. Justice will be done. Evildoers
who don't change and turn to God are doomed.
Meantime, Jesus will bring positive life and
Light to others through you.
